This is the second meeting of these two teams since the late 70's...they met last year and the game came down to the final seconds with waverly winning a close game due to a missed field goal.

This is a different year though and anything could happen, the Tigers have been rollin this year and are hungry after a close loss last week to creekwood...im predicting a big win 30-7 for the waverly tigers...

Any other predictions on this years outcome?

The 2 teams met in the jamboree and it was a 6-0 win for Waverly. McEwen & Waverly are BOTH much improved this season. The Warriors got a big win at East Robertson this past week. The Tigers hammered Houston County and took a close victory against Hickman County in a wild contest in the season opener. I think in a "rivalry" game like this anything can (and will) happen. Last year's game was a win for Waverly as Tyler Fuller hauled in a tipped ball for a score. This year's game will be a competitive battle but I like Waverly to come out victorious 28-14.

i had forgot about the jamboree earlier this season...however im sure that both teams are much improved since that point in the season.

with that being said i am a big time waverly fan and i believe that in order for mcewen to be competitive in this game they will have to grab some early momentum and then weather the storm...

ALSO this is slightly off topic but i think that this game should be annual kinda like the 3rd saturday in october for ex: and that a trophy should go to the winner of this game for the county bragging rights....just an idea to maybe get some more tradition going in humpreys county

I definetely agree with the trophy idea... Possibly the battle for the bronze railroad spike... Have the spike 10-12" with a wooden base... On the base have each year and the score with the winner bringing home the trophy for the entire year... It should be placed at the home team's endzone during each meeting every year...

As for the game this year I would imagine Waverly should win this one... Probably something like 27-13...

Good luck Warriors...

i think that is a good idea...i wonder what it would take to get that done?

only problem that i see with it is if the teams stop playing each other every year, the game needs to be made annual in order to have a trophy...i personally think it would be an amazing source of revenue for both schools bc a trophied rivalry game would probably boost attendance

I think Waverly will also take the win. I feel it will be a good game, should be, big rivalry. If the Tigers are hot I expect a 21pt win anyhow. An annual trophy game would be great and bring in lots of gate money no doubt.. Though I feel this idea will be more wishful thinking than anything, but who knows.

It is my understanding that the Waverly/McEwen contract was for 4 years beginning in 2009 with McEwen hosting the first game. It is also my understanding that the gate is split between the two teams.

I would not be against a trophy awarded to the winner, but this game does not need anything extra to get people excited. These teams went a lot of years without playing one another. I have been to a lot of games in my life and have never seen an atmosphere like what I saw in McEwen last year. I can't imagine what it's going to be like tomorrow night at Ray Hampton Stadium.

Contracts are for 2 years. Odds are not good for a new contract.

You are right, it was a home and home agreement.

Not sure why the odds are not good for this series to continue in 2011. Last year's game came down to a field goal at the end of regulation. This is a civil meeting with a lot of money raised for the athletic programs. Both schools even join forces in ceremonies before the game. Humphreys County has been a good model for other "rivalry" games in the state. Regardless of what happens on the field tonight I hope the series continues and see no reason for why it should or would not.

Totally agree, the rivalry game should definetly continue... I can not imagine what the downfall would be in not renewing the contract...

Less than one hour until kickoff... Good luck Warriors...

Waverly-20 McEwen-6

very sloppy game. 10 turnovers. Waverly 6 McEwen 4. Waverly's seem to come at the most inopportune time when they were driving deep in McEwen territory. McEwen played an excellent game in the trenches, not sure why they have only won one game.

Unofficial statistics for the game

Waverly

Rushing 156 yards

Passing 127 yards

Total 283 yards

McEwen

Rushing 54 yards

Passing 64 yards

Total 118 yards

Good luck Warriors next week.

Good luck Tigers going against a tough Riverside team. Should be a slobber knocker.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
