  2. How did the scrimmage go last night against Grace? I figure it should have been a decent game...

    10A vs 9A

The overall talent level is there this year for McEwen to be very competetive in the region... That being said, they play an extremely weak schedule, year after year, that does nothing to prepare them to win come tournament time. You couple that will very little scheming, below average decision making, and literally no player development and what you end up with is a team that annually gets 24+ wins in the regular season and gets beat 1st/2nd round in the region... This is evident if you look at our success against 9A since the privates left, the weak competition in 10A, and our amazingly good record out of district. How many did MTCS lose last year... I saw them play once at CA, they looked pretty tough...
  4. Are Brandon Walters (Walters State/ Howard) or Jaylen Barford (Motlow State/Southside) playing ball anywhere in 2015... I heard Barford to Arkansas and Walters was looking a football or basketball... just wondering... These two were so much fun to watch at the hs level a few years back...
  5. Best based on "enrollment": Mitchell Best in TSSAA: Oak Ridge if big boy plays Best in state: Hamilton Heights
  6. Class AA basketball is really down across the state compared to the past several years in regards to having top tier teams... I would imagine you will see Fulton, Brainerd, and CreekWood as somewhat locks to make it back... That being said none of them will stand out in comparison to other possible teams like Upperman, Douglass, Elizabethton, etc... It will be somewhat of a open field across the state, but unfortunately it will be boring in general come March in Murfreesboro... Almost the same can be said for class A.
  7. Waverly - 4 TDs McEwen - 0 TDs Mainly starters for first half, JV/second team for second half... 1st Quarter Waverly - 1 McEwen - 0 2nd Quarter Waverly - 1 McEwen -0 3rd Quarter Waverly - 1 McEwen - 0 4th Quarter Waverly - 1 McEwen - 0
  8. Best coach that I have had the oppurtunity to watch in Tennessee High School basketball over the past decade. Wish he would have knocked off Hamilton last year...
  9. It will be tonight in McEwen... HC wins they win the district... HC loses Lead wins the district Districct looks like: 1) Houston Co /Lead Acad 2) Lead Acad/ Houston Co 3) Nashville Christian 4) McEwen 5) East Rob/ Jo Byrns 6) Jo Byrns/ CA/ East Rob 7) CA/ East Rob Like I mentioned above HC/Lead will depend on HC/McEwen game tonight. East Rob/Jo Byrns/ CA will depend on ER/CA game. McEwen has struggled with matching up with NCS. I am excited about them being on the opposite side of the bracket. I feel that McEwen has about as good of a road as possible to the district championship. I'll take Houston Co to win the district as they are 1) senior heavy, 2)decent this year, and 3) have never lost a district tournament game in their new gym. This being said there are about 5 teams that could take home first this year... District and region are down this year... unfortunately...
  10. East 1A - Grace Christian, Hampton East 2A - Fulton, Brainerd East 3A - Bearden, Maryville, OR Middle 1A - Columbia Academy, Loretto, Fayetteville, Clay Co Middle 2A - CreekWood, CPA, Waverly, East Nashville Middle 3A - Brentwood, Station Camp West 1A - Mitchell, Union City, Humboldt, BTW, TCA, Middleton West 2A - JSS, Lexington, Westwood, Southside, Westview West 3A - Hamilton, Southwind, more Memphis schools Class A west Tennessee will run the show... Class AA will be really balanced across the state... Should be really good state tournament with comparable teams Class AAA - Should be Hamilton's run, but besides them could be open between West and Middle, East is a little down compared to last years OR team that made it Just my opinion...
  11. Notice I said weaker... not weak... their is a difference... other good west teams would be Westwood, Westview, Douglass, and maybe Fayette Ware... That being said I could line you up several teams in middle ten that are just as good...
  12. typically true... but not over the past 3 years... AA in middle has been ligit with their top 10 very competitive against top 10 west tn teams... West Tenn 2A is weaker this year than it has been in a while and might not be as strong as middle... I have been all over tennessee to watch ball, so I would say I have an educated opinion in regards to this... That being said, it will be anybody's guess who wins 2A this year... It's very balanced...
  13. Should be a great game... Really tough to call... Stewart County is at home (i believe), but Waverly has the week off to prepare since SC plays a tough in-region game against Fariview this week and will not be able to hide anything... Stewart has the more complete team Waverly has the athletes on offense Stewart County gets the edge in coaching adjustments for time begin Waverly gets the benifit of being off Great early season region matchup... This being said I will go: Waverly 34 Stewart County 20 I think it will really depend on the big play from Waverly... If Stewart can play smart defense and wrap up eliminating the big play I feel they will win the game... I just believe Waverly will get one or two big plays and seperate the game...
  14. I'll say: Bruceton 32 McEwen 13
  15. McEwen fan here...!!! Should beat Zion Christian week 0... After that things get significantly more difficult with Bruceton, JBS, and CA... It would be nice to see McEwen start off 2-2, but that will be tough... Big games for McEwen will be East Robertson, Cornersville, Perry Co., and Houston County. If they pick up three wins against those four teams and start off 2-2 it will be a really sucessful year... Waverly looked pretty good in the scrimmage against us friday night, but they play in a tough district... Not title contending teams, but several teams that are in the top 20 in the state... I look for them to fight against Sterwart County for a possible playoff spot behind Fairview, Lewis Co, and Camden...
  16. Should be very similar to last year... NCS running away with the district... Being the best 1A in western middle, but getting beat by UC again in the semis... No one else in the district will make any noise... Vanilla year... Just my thoughts...
  17. A tournament... Boring tournament with best two teams facing off in first round... That was a good game, but besides it the rest of class A games were terrible... AA tournament... First off, so glad CPA got beat, secondly it was a great tournament with the east still being a little weak The tournament final was awesome... Stinks that either of them had to lose AAA tournament - Great tournament with competitive teams across the state except for maybe JeffCo I wish White Station would have made it though... What was a rather boring first two days at MTSU turned out to be a great set of tournaments... Congrats to all participants... Especially liked watching JSS, East Nashville, and Oak Ridge...
  18. A - Columbia Academy AA - CPA, Waverly AAA - Blackman
  19. I'm somewhat familiar with both teams... I've see Hamilton play twice this year and Blackman a couple of times last year... There's no question that Hamilton will have the size and athletic advantage... As a reference Blackman should be better than Dyer County in regards to the two categories mentioned above.... Blackman also has one of the better coaching staffs in middle Tennessee if not the state... Hamilton should win this game but I would not be surprised if it is close... what should play as an advantage for Hamilton is the fact that they are a dribble drive team and not an outside shooting team... most if not all teams struggle somewhat with shooting outside at the Glass House...
  20. What kind of height does Meigs have on their starting line up...? How tall is the Levi Woods kid...? Just wondering...
  21. I'll take: Bradford - Humboldt Blackwell - CPA Black - WhiteStation Marberry - FRA Fleming - Ensworth
  22. I'll agree with GCPioneer to a point: Here are some stats: From 2005-2013 state champions class A West - 6 rings Middle - 2 rings East - 1 ring From 2005-2013 state champions Class AA West - 5 rings Middle - 2 rings East - 2 rings From 2005-2013 state champions Class AAA West - 8 rings Middle - 0 rings East - 1 ring West pretty well runs D1 basketball in Tennessee... I have been going to the state tournament several years now especially between the time periods I noted and East rarely competes in Class A, does it's best work in AA with the Chatt and Knox schools, and is somewhat competitive on average in AAA... I was at that Wartburg/ Humboldt game last year that they only won by 6... Humboldt was up big for the majority of the game and the Fountain guy was shut competely down while it mattered... As the game got into the fourth it was out of hand and Fountain scored probably 20+ points to make it look like a close game... but it wasn't... Also, I'm from middle tennessee and fairly non bias about the situation... Just thought I would share a little info... So it doesn't happen every year (i.e. Bearden a few years ago, Maryville a few years back, Fulton teams, etc...) but west running things is the norm as of late...
  23. About spot on with my thoughts... Not as talented as teams in past, better coaching, picking them to the finals and then losing...
  24. I'm personally not a fan of the "blind" draw as the TSSAA hands out a silver ball to the team that makes it to the finals and loses and the three best teams may be on one side of the bracket... Basketball 1) elimate the silver ball 2) BCS rank the teams coming in 3) Minimize schedule throughout year and/or take four from each district instead of four and make state double elimination 4) Something else There is also and issue with this in football as you play against one half of the state all the way up to the final game... The four best teams could be on one side of the state and only one makes it. Football 1) Eliminate the silver ball 2) Take final 8 across state/BCS rank them and playoff that way All just options...
