Webb @ DCA

Webb got off to another shaky start like they did against Davidson Academy last week. DCA took the opening kickoff and marched crisply down the field to take the early lead.

Webb then responded with a very impressive quick scoring drive to tie it up. However, when they kicked off following their score, DCA returned the kickoff about 90 yards for a 14-7 lead. This is the second or third kickoff return they have given up this season. At this point it looked like the winner would be whoever had the ball last!

Webb answered that score to tie it up, made some adjustments on defense and pretty much shut DCA down the rest of the way. DCA had one drive where they threatened to score but Webb intercepted a pass in the endzone to kill the threat.

On offense Webb's wing-t was back at full strength for a while as the older Blance brother came back after missing 3 games and played some series. He ran the ball really hard and added a dimension to the offense that makes it very difficult to defend. The younger of the Blance brothers had 3 TDs and right around 200 yards on less than 10 carries. Including the other RBs, I would say Webb may have rushed for close to 400 yards. Webb's QB was on target last night as he connected on the few passes that he threw for over 100 yards. All in all close to 500 yards total offense and 42 points against a team that averaged giving up 12 points per game.

On defense, Webb's coaching staff made some key adjustments along the way and limted DCA to only 14 1st quarter points. DCA has averaged 34 points per game this season so an impressive night by the Spartans on defense. DCA's offense was able to gain yardage both running and passing but Webb's defense came up with some key stops including 2-3 interceptions.

DCA had some nice looking athletes including #4 and #9 who played a very good game. The DCA QB is very talented. Hope he's okay because he took a pretty good shot late in the game. DCA's line was big and strong. They played tough all night and opened some nice holes. Based on what I saw last night, I believe DCA will win their first round game and then most likely face ECS if it all plays out. They are certainly capable of advancing given their balanced offense that includes some very good looking athletes and the skill positions.
