  1. Congrats to the Spartans on the win. Another great job by Coach Meske and staff getting the most out of the numbers they have. They lose a ton of Seniors and have a very small Junior and Sophomore class. They'll have work to do to get back.
  2. Is there an online stream for this game? Would like to watch this game but live outside the MyTV 30 area. Thanks!
  3. I haven't been on the "T" for a long time but I just had to log in today and congratulate the CAK Warriors on a very impressive win last night! Would have loved to have seen this game in person... just sounded like an "Instant Classic" from all the accounts I have read. Again, hats off to the Warriors! Oh... one more thing. It appears, in the time I've been away from Coach T, some Alcoa folks get their giggles by referring to Christian Academy of Knoxville as CAKe. They have my respect by beating the Alcoa "Breeze" 3 out of the last 4!
  4. He pitched at the HS level but will most likely be a middle infielder for UT. REBELRON... he was a very good passer/runner when they asked him to do either. You hit the nail on the head about him being a field general. He knew the wing-t and mid-line veer offenses they ran inside and out. He was very good at getting everything running precisely and was really good at hiding the football when carrying out fakes etc. It's the small details like that which made Webb's offense tough to defend the past few years while he was QB.
  5. Obviously the Blance brothers are very talented and are a threat on any play to take it the distance, however what made Webb good the past two years was they had above average lines for them on both sides of the ball. The 2009 team had good depth and 17 seniors while last years team had good size in the lines with speed in all skill positions. Over the past two years they have had heavy graduation loss in both lines and have a lot of work to do in order to open holes against anybody they play this year for the Blances to run successfully. They will dress no more than 40 players including freshman and will only return two starters on both lines total. However, on offense they will have 3-4 RBs who are very talented along with a playmaker at WR. QB is a question as the 4-year starter has graduated. On defense they return all LBs and DBs but only one DL. Their LBs are hitters who can run while their DBs are young but will be special this year and next. With that said, they will have a tough first two games with Maryville and Ensworth. Once they move into region play I see FRA and DCA being tough while I'm not sure about the others. This year more than most they have zero depth. They will be playing a bunch of kids both ways and staying free of injuries will be very important for them to have success.
  6. Absolutely right, thanks for the correction...
  7. The folks down at CPA are really going to like Vic Jr. He's a big-time playmaker and was probably Knoxville Catholic's best returning player on a very talented squad. I've seen him play since youth football and always knew he'd be exceptional. I've never seen him play basketball but I've heard he's very good. Overall, he's just a great athlete. Vic Sr. should do well at CPA too. The kids have always liked him and he knows what he's doing with track athletes, especially sprinters. Vic also has a lot of connections from his past in Nashville and will no doubt attract some kids to CPA in the future. Good luck to both of them.
  8. As an aside... can anyone tell me why Coach Owen's son went to BGA back in the day?
  9. They haven't lost to a Knox County public school in many years and are something like 14-1 over the past 10 years or so. This record includes multiple wins over Bearden, AE, Powell, Halls, Central and your West Rebels. They haven't played the teams you mentioned recently, but you could ask anyone from Maryville who went to the Webb vs Maryville scrimmage this past season and find out how that turned out. Not sure what it would take to prove anything to you but I think if you went around the Knoxville area and asked those who follow HS football, they would tell you that Webb has proven itself and have the respect of many. Just sayin...
  10. Robby Collier is the Assistant Head Coach at Webb and coaches DBs. He is an absolute great coach and person. Kevin Catlett is the D-Coordinator and does a fantastic job every year. Randy Carroll has been a terrific addition to the staff at Webb School the past two years. He does a great job handling the JV and offers a tremendous amount of experience plus the kids really like him. I've said it before and I'll say it again... the coaching staff at Webb is without question at the very top in the state. It was a pleasure getting to know them over the years and I will always hold them in the highest regard.
  11. Well nobody can say Webb is going to ease into the season next year. Week 0 vs. Maryville and then Week 1 vs. Ensworth. Back to back 2010 State Champs will be a fun to watch. Webb has a chance to be pretty good next year but it will all depend on finding practically all new starters on the o-line and d-line... I think they're only returning 1 starter from each. On offense all 3 RBs return but they will need to replace the QB and WR. On defense all LBs and DBs return.
  12. Agreed... see Webb School play for a clinic on how to effectively run the wing-t. I would also agree that it can be a monumental failure of an offensive system if it's not run correctly.

Webb returns 8 on defense but will have to replace both DEs and one DT. They only return 4 on offense, all 3 RBs and one OG. The other 7 will all be newcomers at each position so they'll have to work hard to get ready. The returning RBs are all very talented but with a practically brand new O-line, it could take a while for them to work together as a unit. This year's O-line was very good and had very good size with two tackles that were around 6'4" 280 and two others that were probably 225 or so. Next year's line will not have near this kind of size but you can take it to the bank that Coach Meske and the coaching staff out there will coach up whoever they have.
  14. Webb has some work to do if they're going to compete with Maryville next year. They return 8 on defense but will have to replace both DEs and one DT. They only return 4 on offense, all 3 RBs and one OG. The other 7 will all be newcomers at each position so they'll have to work hard to get ready. The returning RBs are all very talented but with a practically brand new O-line, it could take a while for them to work together as a unit. Next year's line will not have near this kind of size but you can take it to the bank that Coach Meske and the coaching staff out there will coach up whoever they have. The returning players will also go into this game knowing that they can compete with Maryville as they performed very well against Maryville in a pre-season scrimmage. Should be a great day for HS football in Blount County and East TN!
  15. APB... so I thought Alcoa vs. Webb was set. Why did it change to Alcoa vs. Cleveland in the first game?
  16. Well, thanks but no thanks... I like my current occupation and job security. I'm not claiming to be a "genius" as you say, I'm just expressing my opinion and we'll see what happens over the next few years. Like I said, good luck to him at Alabama, hope he has a great career there.
  17. If you had read my previous post in this thread you would have seen that I said "What do I know, he was recruited by every SEC school and several major college programs". I'm just saying... I've seen a lot of SEC and major college DBs over the years and the Washington kid is going to have to gain a ton of weight because he looks to be about 155-160 lbs. He is also going to have to get a lot stronger and learn how to hit and be aggressive. Obviously Saban and all of those other schools saw something in him that they like so good luck to him at Alabama. My opinion is that he is 3 years from seeing the field there. Maybe after a redshirt year and 3 years in the weight room he'll play some as junior.
  18. I saw the same thing you did regarding the Washington kid, in fact I posted something similar several pages ago in this thread. I'm sorry but I just don't see SEC potential out of him for many different reasons.
  19. Yeah... I saw a couple of Greeneville players pointing to their ring fingers and to the scoreboard which was nothing compared to the cheap shots and lack of class shown by the Trezevant head coach who was postering and running his mouth to a TSSAA official after they got their silver ball trophy.
  20. I've seen two different players for Signal Mountain run away from the Washington kid for Trinity Christian. Sure he has a ton of yardage passing but he's really a non-factor on defense. Not anywhere near as fast as I thought, very small and skinny, not physical in run support and takes plays off on defense. Maybe he's not feeling well or something today but I sure don't see the hype for this kid but what do I know he was recruited by every SEC school plus many other big-time colleges.
  21. I expect this game to be very competitive and close until late. I believe Webb's offense will wear down St. George's in the second half and gain the advantage to win by 2 scores. St. George's will have to find a way to slow down the Webb running game which involves all 3 of their talented RBs and a very good o-line that is playing very well as a unit. If they load the box and sell out on stopping the run then expect Webb to exploit some openings in the passing game. Webb's defense is young but very capable and will be challenged to stop the St. George's offense as effectively as last year's senior-heavy defense did in the first round. I expect St. George's will move the ball but the Spartan defense will cause a couple of turnovers with their aggressive and hard hitting play. In the end, I believe the Webb coaching staff will make a huge difference in this game. They are experienced and have this team prepared for anything. They are also very good at making adjustments to their gameplan to gain advantages on offense and defense. Should be a great game to watch. Hope it's injury free and everyone from both schools has a safe trip to Cookeville and back home.
  22. We'll never know but I think Webb could give West a good game.
  23. Pulley vs. Little last night was a great battle to watch. Two Mr. Football lineman finalists, two DI commits and two guys who have a high motor. I think they both earned the respect of one another last night.
  24. This game was an absolute war. Both teams left it all on the field and there was some serious hitting going on all night long. What made this a joy to watch was that there were numerous times where each team would help the other up after a big hit and pat each other on the head etc. Two programs that showed class and respect for one another all night. ECS came out and drove the ball down to get a quick field goal after Webb's defense stiffened. Webb's first possession ended with a fake punt in their own territory that was unsuccessful after barely missing a wide open receiver who was overthrown. ECS capitalized by scoring on the short field and made it 10-0 with all the momentum. Webb scored 21 unanswered points on the running of not only the Blance brothers but the third RB Berube who made some huge runs to keep the ECS defense off-balance. The score was 21-10 to start the 4th quarter. ECS scored with 5 minutes to go to make it 21-16 but after receiving the kickoff, Caleb Blance ran the fullback trap 71 yards for the score to make it 28-16. ECS would not quit and scored to make it 28-23 with 2 minutes left. ECS attempted an onside kick that failed and Webb drove the ball down to the ECS 2 yard line. The ECS defense kept the Spartans out of the endzone by stuffing two plays from the 2 and took over with less than a minute and no timeouts. The Webb defense shut down the Eagles final drive without them crossing midfield as time expired. This was one of the best games I've seen in a long time. Both teams went all out and brought their best and ECS just came up a little bit short. The ECS offense was fun to watch as they ran their no-huddle attack with 3 different QBs through the course of the game. I was really impressed with their young QB Rooker who made some very nice throws and was elusive too. The Jamison cousins were a factor as expected with both making some plays although the speed of Webb's defense limted Will from really hurting the Spartans too much. Childers ran tough but was hit hard just about every time he was tackled and it appeared to take a toll. I was very impressed with the ECS receiver #84. He's a big target and can catch and run very well. ECS had a couple other WRs that were solid too. The ECS defense was tough up the middle and did a good job of holding the Blance brothers in check however they found out the hard way if you give them the slightest opening they will make you pay and both Caleb and Aaron took advantage of those opportunities. The Spartans played pretty well on defense and held the ECS offense to just over 300 yards. Although they gave up 225 passing yards, they came up huge with 3 interceptions. Most of the passes were underneath and Webb's young secondary stepped up and didn't allow much of anything to be completed downfield. Webb's LBs were very active and laid some big licks all night long. One of the interceptions was made by LB Carter on a one-handed grab that was a game changer after ECS took a 10-0 lead. The d-line did a great job of battling to free the LBs and played a huge part of keeping Childers in check and holding ECS to less than 100 yards rushing. On offense the Spartans stayed with their plan and never got rattled. The limited passing game was not working so they relied on what they do best and that's run the ball behind their o-line that executes their blocks with precision. The Blance brothers had a big night Caleb (165 yards, 2 TDs) and Aaron (115 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 100+ return yards). Webb's third RB had a big night as well. Berube made some very nice runs to keep ECS off-balance as they focused on the Blance brothers and ended the night with close to 100 yards rushing himself. Hats off the the ECS team and coaches who did a very good job last night. I'm sure it was a bitter loss especially for the seniors as they were put out of the playoffs for the second consecutive year by the Spartans. Keep your heads up, you played and competed with class. Hats off to your fans who traveled in mass from Memphis and were vocal the entire game. Hope everyone made it home safely. Way to go Spartans, you now have earned the chance to defend last years' State Championship in Cookeville. Win the last game and finish the job. I can't wait to be in Cookeville and watch you compete for the gold ball! 25. If the coaching staff at DA would be willing to have both Williams and Dixon in the backfield and call plays that get the ball to both at a 60/40 in favor of Williams, they could be very hard to defend and could take the win tonight. However, if they just feed the ball to Williams and allow St. George's to focus solely on him it could be a long night for DA.
