The Bucs pulled out a solid win today over fellow NCWA Mid-Atlantic region foe MTSU 30-26.

From what I could tell MTSU did move some guys around (missed weight)but a take down in the last 6 seconds at 174 and a BIG pin at 285 (I believe that the MTSU 197 was wrestling here)proved to be the difference.

Coach Knepper appears to have the Blue Raiders poised for a run, it was just GREAT to see ETSU with a full line up (minus a hurt 184)of young guys really working hard. As a long time region 2 guy it was very cool to see so many familiar faces for both teams not to mention the guys in stands looking forward to joining the teams next year.

Can't wait to see these guys get after it again!

Maybe one day the state of TN can hold more open tournaments and get more involvement into the TWF with kids wrestling that would allow donations to colleges like GEORGIA does.

Would be great to get more schools offering scholarships in TN.

Yes...this is in the works as we speak.

Box Score from Match...only weights that didn't bump were at 125, 184, and 235 for MTSU. Overall a tough loss due to being up in 4 matches that were eventually lost by the Blue Raiders

ETSU 30 MTSU 28

125 Anthony Patnode (MT) win by Fall 4:38 over Ian McKinley (ET) 6-0 MTSU

133 Cory Thweatt (ET) win by Fall 4:16 over Charlie Warfield (125-MT) 6-6; Warfield was up 4-0, when Thweatt got an escape, takedown, and pin in 5th minute

141 Matt Baker (ET) dec 9-2 over Cagg Cabell (133-MT) 9-6 ETSU; Baker dominated

149 Trey Thigpen (141-MT) win by Fall 3:47 over Austin Collins (ET) 12-9 MTSU; Thigpen is a pre-season All-American at 141

157 Nic Shields (ET) win by injury default over Kyle Chandler (149-MT) 15-12 ETSU; Chandler got 1st TD but was reversed mid-way through 1st period onto his torn labrum shoulder (surgery scheduled for 12/20)...it was a valiant effort just to step on the mat covering for sick 157-lber

165 Nick Appleby (157-MT) MD 9-0 over Mike Puckett (ET) 16-15 MTSU

174 James Hagan (ET) Dec 9-8 over Lorenzo Colbert (165-MT); 18-16 ETSU Hagan with an Escape and Takedown with 15 seconds in match to win--Colbert had 3:30 riding time...just ran out of steam.

184 Justin Addis (MT) win by forfeit 22-18 MTSU

197 Craig Carter (ET) win by forfeit 24-22 ETSU

<Carter pinned Addis in 1:45 exhibition match at 197>

235 Miles Taylor (MT) win by forfeit 28-24 MTSU

<Taylor pinned Jon Risdon in 1:06 exhibition match at 285>

285 Spencer Keck (ET) win by Fall 3:26 over Jackie Miller (197-MT...missed weight) 30-28 ETSU ; Miller had first takedown, but was down 3-2 after 1st period. Keck at 255 was just too much for Miller who weighed in at 202, having tweaked his knee earlier in the week and was unable to run to cut weight.

<Miller pinned AJ Dorland in 0:48 exhibition match at 235>

All in all, a decent day--proud of the guys that bumped up to better competition...it will pay off come National Duals.
