Macon County vs Goodpasture

Gordonsville would of been a good team to play but it's not like you can just go out and cherry pick teams. For all I know we might could of picked up Gordonsville but Jo Byrns is who we played and they've been just as succesful and probably even more so than Gordonsville the past few years.

The only reason Jo Byrns has been more successful than Gville in the past few years is because they play nowhere the caliber teams that Gville does every year. Jo Byrns got a small taste of it when they did play Macon County, so what if they had to play TC every year? Gville plays FCS, SC, and TC every year and coming out with a 7-3 record is really good considering the calliber teams they play. Jo Byrns had an easy road to the state championship last year, and what happened in that game? Gville is on a different level than Jo Byrns...

Who's the 7 teams gville beat? I honestly don't know who they play other than the ones you just named off minus your in county rival.

RBS. WATERTOWN, CLAY CO., JACKSON CO., MONTEREY, PICKETT CO., AND WESTMORELAND. USUALLY WATERTOWN, MONTEREY, CLAY CO., WESTMORELAND, play good ball coupled with TC SC and FC

That's a tough schedule for any 1A school

With all that being said I doubt that Gordonsville would of wanted to play us week zero anyway. They would of started the season with Macon,Smith,FCS and Trousdale. That would give them four tough games to start the season off with. And you are right Gordonsville does play three higher caliber teams than Jo Byrns usually does but they also consistantly lose to those three teams though. If Jo Byrns played Gordonsvilles schedule they would go 7-3 and lose to South Pitt in the play offs just like Gordonsville does. If you wanted to say Gordonsville and Jo Byrns were on the same level I would agree but saying Gordonsville is on a different level is a pretty big stretch.

Macon County is a program that is on the rise. They will have a good season. I was at the game against Trousdale, and the Jackets have a good team, but Macon has a better team that what they brought to the field. The key to Macon's success this year is going to be consistancy. They have to be able to control special teams for sure, this is where they started going down hill last week. I am going to say that Macon will get back on track and pull out the win this week. It will be a good game. I will say. Macon 42 GP 38

The difference between Gville and Jo Byrns is that Gville would give themselves a chance of winning. Gville and SC went into double o/t and last years game was a lot closer than the score indicated, hard hitting and close nearly the whole game. Last year against TC 2 points seperated them. I never said Gville goes 7-3 every year, but if they did it would be a good record considering the caliber FCS, TC, and SC are. Gville and FCS are probably split in the games they've played in the last decade. Yes, Jo Byrns and Gordonsville both probably would lose in the playoffs last year to South Pitt, but there is a difference in losing 41-6 and 32-21...

We can also go back to the 2009 season and see how Gordonsville did against South Pitt or even go back to 2008 when both played Trousdale and see the comparitive scores if that's what you want to do. Your arguement about Gordonsville being on another level just doesn't hold water.

Better team than showed up last week? Are you trying to say they couldn't get up for that game?

Big rivalry as this is and you can't get pumped up. They were improving at the end of last season,

but I can't see that much difference, then & now.

BTW, heard on the grapevine that there was a bonus of $10K for Pemberton if he beat TC. Heard

anything of that nature on the hill?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
