West Greene @ Cumberland Gap

Is this Dalton Bole's uncle? I think if you add it up right now Starnes is 7th or 8th in the conference in rushing. And that is behind Boles who usually gets at least 25-30 carries a game. Like others have said, Starnes is definitely not the go to guy on this team but when he gets his carries, he runs hard. And the statement about getting touched and going down, Starnes is on of the hardest runners I have ever seen. He may not break too many good tackles but if you hit him high we will run over you. Boles is an all-state capable running back but there are many teams out there that would love to have Starnes on their team.

Oh and P.S.

Starnes leads the team in interceptions. One of the best defensive players on a team that needs a lot of help in the secondary.

How much of an indicator of what CG has was the South Greene game earlier this year? Did they play bad or just get flat out outplayed?

This was the first game without the starting qb for CG, so that obviously had an effect. I think they had 5-6 turnovers that lead to 4-5 SG tds. And to answer your second question, my answer would be a little bit of both. CG didn't play well and SG did. CG is much better than the performance they put on that night. As for tonight, I'm hoping that CG takes advantage of the fact that they are home again and will play to their capabilities because they could be a pretty good football team if they play like theyre capable. I'm still going out on a limb and picking CG in an upset! :thumb:

I think it may be Rhinehart's uncle. In an earlier post he stated WG should throw the ball a lot more. A team that has 11 completions and 3 interceptions should be throwing the ball much! The one two punch with Boles and Starnes is there best option! Boles should get around 25 to 30 carries a game and Starnes the rest. Nobody on hear thinks Starnes is on the same level as Boles but he is a good back! In WG's 39 year history Boles is there all time leading rusher so obviously he is special! WG needs to keep Starnes rested for defense and Boles rested for offense. Starnes is doing a good job on defense. WG's needs to worry more about getting their defensive back in the proper position. Starnes is doing a good job but there are severallays where the DB's look like they have no idea who they are suppose to be covering! I would like to see WG run the ball outside a lot more!!! By the way in future post some of the people on here need to remember these are 16 and 17 year kids you are on hear talking about.

Heath in the Unaka game got most of his carries from the fullback positiion, he hit the hole so quick the hole didnt have time to open up, our line may be big and sstrong but most of them are on the slower side of things. When Heath got his carries from the HB spot he'd run for 7-8 yards a pop. To say Starnes isnt any good at all, prettyu stupid. Ill be making the trip up to the gap tonight, im hopin to see a good game and see wg's defense stop the dang pass for once this year. Good luck to both teams and hopefully no more injuries for both teams. WG-36 CG-14

Thanks for the info veerman. Looking forward to the trip up to the Gap tonight. The last time I was up there was 2007 and the final was 49-14 Cumberland Gap. Hoping for a little better game than that :thumb:

I will agree with you veerman there were times the qb looked a little shaky but other times he looked good . Thats a hard job to get thrown into and shine immediately . Hope you all have a great game tonight and most importantly how is the young man that was injured at south Greene ?

He's doing just fine and should be back after the open week next week. Thanks for asking and for all your prayers for our guy. :thumb:

I always enjoy this game, its two completely different styles of teams goin at it. West Greene will pound it at you almost every play of the game, where the Gap will screen you to death and will catch you sleepin if your not careful. If CG comes out to play, WG could have their hands full. Im just glad we arent playin you guys on week 10 like we used to, it gets pretty chilly up there around late october early november. Ima stick with my prediction of WG 36 CG 14.

Pretty darn good game from the article in the Sun. Boles must have torn up the field with 350+ yards. Looks like penalties must have killed the Buffs, they will need to get that fixed. Good luck to your Panthers veerman. They must have improved some since the jamboree.

Yes Bud, but we actually passed the ball last night! It was finally time to turn the QB loose! He throwed for around 150yrds. We played good (in spurts) and looked terrible at times. If we ever put a complete game together, we will have a pretty good team. The penalties killed us, although I think some of them were a little touchy/ feely! Overall a win for the Buffs! Yes, Starnes was a beast also, but never gets his name in the paper! He is a very reliable TB, but is tearing it up on defense as well! We got 2 starters back last night that really showed up as well! Lindsey and Duckett! Go Buffs!
