Can anybody tell me what the TSSAA rules are when it comes to girls softball and fall all star games?

http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/handbook.pdf

All-Star games are covered on page 18.

The fall 50% rule is covered on page 27. Softball is just like baseball - no more than five players from one high school on one team's fall-ball schedule.

I hope this helps....

50% Rule – Applies to basketball, baseball, and softball. Participation (includes practice or games) during the

school year on a non-school team prior to the school season by students that will play the following season on the

high school team is limited to 50% of the number of players required to play the game (3 in basketball, 5 in

baseball, 5 in girls softball). Only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team prior to the school season may be placed on the high school eligibility list the following season. Those students cannot be

interchanged on the school’s team roster.

Once again i post this in disgust. TSSAA does not tell you ckild cannot play during the school year, just the are not eligible to play that sport if they do. How they feel they can dictate the participation of a student trying to improve thier skills while not on a TSSAA roster defies belief. If that child was participating on another school sport at the same time they were participating in a non- school related team it would be understandable, but they are limiting their ability to improve while not on a TSSAA roster. Its legal because they dont say they cant just they cant participate in their sanctioning body if they do. Incredible, no wonder our athletes stuggle to compete for scholarship dollars with athletes from other states as they do not have such regulations.

Is it clear as mud that it only pertains to fall baseball/softball and not in the summer? Some softball coaches think you can't have a summer team with more than 5 players. Yet baseball does it in the summer with their whole team. Why does one coach interpret it one way and the other coach interprets it another?

What about in the summer? Dose that same rule apply,50%?

There are no restrictions on summer teams until school begins. The "no more than 5 on a team" rule kicks in the first scheduled day of classes for that particular school. So, if your school starts the first Monday in August, even though that is still the summer, you can not have more than 5 girls from your school participating on a team without endangering their eligibility with TSSAA.

Can the head coach of the school team coach the summer team?

There can be no Fall HS game as it relates to high school players. There is no fall season or time the players/coaches can play together. There is only conditioning which is done during the designated time period. There are all-star games played after a players senior season is over.

Can the head coach of the school team coach the summer team?

Difficult for that, since there is a two week "Dead Period" smack dab in the middle of the summer. For 2012 it is June 24 through July 7. "Dead Period: No coaching, observing,or contact between coach and players in sport involved. There is no practice, no open facilities, and no weight training/conditioning" (from page 27 of the TSSAA Handbook)

This also applies to Middle School members of the TMSAA.

There is also a dead period that begins Monday of the first week of August 1 and lasts 21 consecutive days. (page 32).

Never found anything about Coaches being involved in the summer(outside of these dates) or the fall provided that the 5 player rule is not broken.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
