Bradley vs Cookeville

Bradley's present coach has morals and does things ethical, so I don't believe for a second that he would intentionally violate any TSSAA rules.

You're probably thinking about when Bill Price coached at Bradley. He lacked morals and ethics and had players from 3 different counties, and one from Georgia playing for him. He skirted getting caught because certain people in Bradley County supported this stuff by providing housing that the player's family "occasionally" visited.

And I was thinking he was talking about Cleveland last year when they had some controversy over where a player and his dad lived.

Cavs win tonight 34-28.

Didn't get to see the game, had to work, but figured we'd have to put up some good numbers to win against a great Bears offensive team and we did that.

Cavs have been able to move the ball on everyone they've played this year aside from the two blowout losses to Riverdale & Mt. Juliet, who appear to be two of the top 5 teams in the state at this point. So it looks like the tough non district schedule has served them well so far.

Hosting Oak Ridge next week.

Way to go CAVS! :thumb:

Congratulations to the Cavaliers. Gutsy comeback by the Bears, though. Defense returned to its frequent pattern by taking 2 quarters off. Gave up 21 points in the second, and let Cookeville chew up almost all of the third quarter (only 6 points, but Bradley only had the ball for 5-6 plays). Solid fourth quarter performance by a freshman quarterback almost put the heartbreak on the home sidelines. He had a rocky start, but really came through for us in that fourth quarter.

Ironic, in a way. After all the running and all the hits he's seen this season, Bryce Copeland gets a broken arm on his first rush of tonight's game. Wish the best for his recovery.

Didn't hear that about Copeland, wish him the best as well.

Congratulations to the Cavs on a nice win.

Bradley come out and made a great opening statement. One play 15 seconds and 6 points to, the forgotten so often, Logan Fetzner.

Then after the D got a stop, Copeland throws a little behind and Cavs get the Int and turn that into points.

Tie Game and Copeland hits Houston over the middle and another 7 points. Defense gets another stop, and then Copeland gets hurt going out of bounds. He was taken to the hospital after being checked out on the sideline and didn't return to the field as far as I know.

Houston runs a few wildcat type plays while the backup, Daniel Clark (#8) gets warmed up and ready. Then a couple of short incomplete throws, nerves no doubt, considering how he played in the 4th, then throws an int which the Cavs quickly turn into more points.

But at the end of the second Clark throws a nice pass to a streaking Stovall which went right between his hands. Halftime score was 28-14.

Third Quarter was all Cavs who controlled the ball with a good running attack split mostly between a big powerful fullback and a scatback with speed similar to Rue Goldston. Bradley's D just could not get off the field.

The fourth, Bradley's D finally got a 3 and out with a tremedous group of 3 plays stuffing the run. Clark broke loose on a scramble that looked much like a Copeland run to paydirt. Then after another 3 and out and punt, Clark hits a great pass to get down close and then sneaks it in. Another 3 and out by the defense got the ball back for the Bears with about 4 minutes left and assisted by a personal foul penalty got down to the 29 before the Cav defense forced them into a 4th and 10. The pass was well thrown, but he ball was just tipped away by a finger tip. I am pretty sure that we score if the pass is complete, but the Cav DB made temendous effort to get the job done.

The Cavs run out the clock and get Oak Ridge at home, next week.

Great effort by the Bears after getting out of their funk of the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but I agree Preacher210. The same old bugaboo of not playing 4 quarters hit them again and ended a nice season on a somewhat sour note.

I give the Cavs credit for playing well and getting done what they needed to. But Bradley has not performed as well as they should during periods of games all season. And that will cost you in the end.

Heal quickly and well Bryce.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
