Just read on UT's web site that Ashley Cline of Lebanon High School and the Wild Things travel team has signed early to be a lady Vol. Congratulations and best of luck to a great softball player!

Congrats to Ashley, she has been one of my favorites since

she played in the Hendersonville league for a couple of

years when it started in 1995.

She is one of those that could play all nine positions well.

Playing at UT was always her goal, and now she will be

there.

She has always played on strong travel teams through the

years, despite playing high school the last three years at

Gallatin, which is not known for their softball.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, sorry if they have, but pitcher Ashley Frizzell of Soddy-Daisy will play at MTSU. This was reported in the Chattanooga paper, not just a rumor. That's pretty big for MTSU, and a big loss for UTC for her to leave town.

Indian, I never understood why she didn't show up on one of the dominant 18U teams in Chattanooga.

I am not sure, maybe she felt more comfortable playing for the Blitz team with her high school coach and some of her teammates instead of traveling lots more. Maybe she knew she was a Division I player based on her high school play and didn't need the travel. Not being smart, I don't know the answer. I am wanting to say she played for one of the strong travel teams 2 or 3 years ago but not positive.

I'm not dissing her because I know she is a good player but I've always believed you need to see where you stand, there is a big step from 16U to 18 Gold and DI ball. Clifford probably made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

It looks like MTSU has signed another Tennessee softball player. Shortstop Candis Littrell from Columbia Tn signed with the lady blueraiders last week. Congradulations to coach Connelley and her staff for having confidence in the local Tennessee players.From what I heard Candis had some big offers from other DIV-1 colleges out of state.It will be fun to watch how well MTSU softball performs in the next few years.There is more Tennessee softball tailent out there!!!
