Well i sit and watched the guy direct almost everything he yelled (and he yelled alot)at the coach. You can only take so much of someone in your ear. heck i wish coach yaden had whooped his butt! so as usual we have 2 different stories. I have a lot of friends at Wartburg and I think you guys have a great coach, players and fans but this guys main goal was to ride our coach and not cheer his team. But i still say let the 2 adults settle it at midcourt so we all can watch.

again i dont know i was to far away to hear what was said i just observed but i do know oneida has a great team not gonna down them for what they have accomplished they play hard and they play fairly clean no complaints here but 2 games ago against yall i did hear and observe coach yaden screaming at #4 from wartburg as he ran up the court i seen and heard that myself but hes your coach and he represents his best i guess i am just glad coach layne doesnt carry on like that during games as our coach he doesnt seem to pay no mind to the stands!

You say that you can only take so much. I see players get heckled by student sections every game all game long. I have yet to see a player go to the student section and threaten any of them. The point of the matter is your coach is an adult and a teacher of your kids you do not lose your cool like that. Your coach is sending the message that if someone gets on your nerves you need to fight. Thats the wrong message to send in my book.

Coach Layne is a very solid and well mannered coach, but I didn't say Yaden was perfect, he just was provoked by a complete idiot who was there just to show his butt. Yaden probably should have handled it better, but how much could any of us take if someone showed up at our job and mouthed us non stop.

Yaden was really out of line with this one. As a coach you can and should expect to be yelled at, especially if you bring alot of it on yourself. His temper to opposing fans is the equivalent to blood in the water for sharks. If the fans know they can get to you, they sure will try. I am not saying that it is right but that is the nature of it all. I spoke with a few very trustworthy people sitting around the "heckler" and they were absolutely sure that Yaden was in the wrong on this one. I am sure it was not completely unprovoked though. He has to understand that there were kids sitting behind him that didn't need to hear his mouth and there is no excuse for that.

You know, I wish Coach Yaden has kept his cool or, at least, not said the a _ _ word he used. However, I was told by people sitting in that section that the "fan" in question was addressing our players and calling them foul names and that is when Coach Yaden decided to stand up for his players and say something. He let everything go when the the man was addressing him, but when he cursed at our players, Yaden had all he could take. My son plays on the team and I may not agree with cursing when Coach spoke to the man, but I appreciate him getting him to stop talking to my son and the rest of team that way. There is no place for that in this game or in life for that matter. Obviously, I am not going to repeat what the man said, but it makes my blood boil that my son had to sit there be called that and hear the Lord's name taken in vain all because this "fan" was trying to get under the skin of an opposing coach to help his team win a game. That is really sad. I had a fan from Sunbright tell me that this man has done this against other teams this year. She did not specifically say he cursed, just the yelling at the coach and players to cause problems and gain an advantage. What have we come to. I'm naive enough to think that we are supposed to cheer for our team, and, of course, yell at the officials occasionally. What made things worse tonight, the law enforcement that was present came to escort the "fan" out for causing the incidents that he had caused and then it appears Dallas Davis intercedes on his behalf to allow him to re-start his tirade on the baseline near the end of Oneida's bench. That shocked me. Obviously, the "fan" is classless, but Dallas surprised me.

I have several people I consider friends in Wartburg and many more that I think are very classy and in no way will I ever let tonight taint how I feel about Wartburg as a whole. However, I really felt like our boys got a raw deal tonight, and I'm not talking about the game. Wartburg played great and earned the win. Oneida played great, as well, we just ran out of gas. Not having Noah hurt. And before you get on here Indianoutlaw, I am NOT making excuses. We just lost in a hard fought game. The raw deal was having to listen to someone talk to them that way in the first place, but then seeing what they thought was justice only to have him escorted back in by the law and Principal of the school and having him continue his onslaught on them.

Good luck to Wartburg on Monday against Hampton. You already have a 16 pt. victory against them this year so you know you can get to the 'Boro. Now go make it happen. You deserve it.

As for Oneida, you guys deserve it, too. We haven't seen Cloudland this year, but I believe we can beat them. I really think we can play with anyone in Class A. Haven't seen them all, but like a friend of mine told me, they can only put five out there at time just like you. I know that's a little simplistic, but you guys have been playing so well I think it's fitting. Good Luck Indians. Get to the 'Boro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gobey, it would seem any observer would miss the absence (due to illness) of Oneida's starting point guard. You would think it was unusual for Oneida's forwards (C. Jeffers and C. West) to be bringing the ball up against the Bulldog Press. Noah Duncan was sorely missed last night which makes the Indians effort all the more admirable. I also didn't think it was new info that the Indian's have lost several players that could have made a contribution to last night's effort (Foster and H. West come to mind), but those young men have moved to other pursuits outside of basketball.

Now the "hot button" issue.....Yaden never should have engaged the Guy who seemed pretty determined to win the 4-A Heckler of the Year Award. He (Yaden) should have went to the game administrator and asked to have the guy removed from behind his bench....and the Wartburg Fans should not come to his (Bald Guy) defense either because HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING WHEN HE CHOSE TO SIT WHERE HE DID. All places in the gym to go, and he goes right behind the Oneida Bench, I'm sorry folks....but that clearly shows intent. He should have sat with Dallas and those two fine fella's wearing officer's uniforms. (to uphold and protect....?)(that might be a stretch) One of the uniformed officers was even joking around with the guy later in the evening... guess he thought the whole thing was a joke? And again I say Yaden was wrong for ever personnally addressing the guy.

Oneida played like they were missing a guy last night. Wartburg was unquestionably the better team last night. Congrads to those kids....now they get to play at home because they earned it. If Oneida is back at full strength Monday, they might earn a trip to the Glass House....I'm expecting no less of the Bulldogs either. Good luck to both squads.

Bald Guy.....now we know what the guy looks like that is clearly a loser, even though his kid appears to be a winner.

Rusty Yaden should have never involved himself with the guy directly. (that is my third statement to that fact) He was involved directly with the proceedings in the gym, and his attentions should have remained there.

The Bald Guy was intending to make himself exactly what he was (a distraction) by sitting where he could inflict the most damage.....directly behind the Oneida Bench. I'm certain Mr. Yaden would have completely ignored him had he chose to sit, say, on the other side of the gym or behind the Bulldog Bench. Yaden didn't have the same option this guy did (he had to sit at his assigned bench), so you can paint any picture you want of the guy... the truth is he knew exactly what he was trying to do and he succeeded because our coach has a temper! I'm not going to judge you people on the actions of one man....but before you so eagerly come to his defense or not, he created the reaction from the coach by putting himself where he could do the most damage. And in my opinion he was clearly attempting to cause a "public disturbance". His punishment....joke around with the Wartburg Police Department, take pictures in center court of his son, and mill around with the crowd after the game. (oh gosh :o thats what most people do anyways, right?)

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
