Yea 4th quarter Liberty made some real playoff fouls...

I think those "playoff fouls" came out of frustration due to the fact that the second half foul count was about 12 for Liberty to 3 for Bolivar. Some of the previous posts were saying they hoped the refs didnt decide the game. I dont know if they decided it, cause Bolivar's kids made some great plays but the refs certainly had an impact on the game. You hate to see that in a championship game.

The fact is Liberty couldn't take advantage of Bolivar playing like crap the first half and then got blowed out 44 to 22 in the second half. Bolivar put it in another gear offensively and Liberty couldn't deal with it and Bolivar turned up the defence. Bolivars second half defence and limiting the offensive rebounds was the main deference in the game not the refs. :popcorneater:

So let me see if I've got this straight. Liberty hacks, foul called. Bolivar doesn't hack, but a foul should be called? Just to make it fair?

If we are going to have even fouls, regardless of what the teams do, why have refs?

If you watched the game, there was a reason the fouls were lopsided. One team played football, the other basketball...

Same opinion here,I actualy thought the refs' were pretty lieniant in letting Liberty play their style of ball.Numerous times Bolivar jerseys were streatched by Liberty defenders trying to deny cuts to the basket off the ball, and if it didn't directly affect the play it was let go.Two punishing fouls on breakaways by Liberty were the only "rough" fouls I saw,and just for the record I thought the refs' mis-called them both with an honest attempt on the ball in the first(which was called intentional) and in the second(which was not),Polk took a shot to the head out of frustration with no attempt at the ball.Styles of play directly impact the number of fouls compiled teamwise, and if Liberty/Bolivar play ten times this season I'd expect Liberty to be whistled for more fouls each game.

I dont have a horse in the race...I am a JCM fan! I am glad Bolivar won. I thought they were the best team in the district. But if you don't think Bolivar reaches and grabs and bumps too then you werent watching the same game I was. Both teams play tough, aggressive defense, which is a big reason they both win and yes, Liberty fouls ALOT! But to play in a championship game with the intensity level through the roof and they only fouled 3 or 4 times? The whole half? 16 minutes of fast paced, intense, aggressive championship basketball and they only fouled 3 or 4 times?! Really? C'mon now... if you really think that is what happened then you are too big of a HOMER to reason with.

I guess I am...because that is what I saw. If they'd called EVERYTHING, Bolivar would have had more fouls, sure. But Liberty would have had to finish the game with the cheerleaders on the floor.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
