The original poster wrote that they would be transferring from a private school to either a public or another private school.

Which is why I was careful to phrase my inquiry thusly:

 

But if the original poster's son had been at a public rather than a private school, then the 20 mile rule wouldn't apply, would it, if he intended to enroll in another public school?
