Pemberton is gone, tired about reading how everyone wants to bring up scheduling issues! Who are all of the players, who is the front runner? Who can come to Macon County and build a program? Who wants to come here and be a fabric of our community? Who can build it so every one wants to be a part of it?

EDIT: Confirmed hiring of Head Coach Randall Smith from Pebblebrook High School in Cobb County, GA.

http://www.maconcountytimes.com/pages/full_story/push?article-Randall+Smith+named+new+Tigers+head+coach%20&id=18086804

Randall Smith was officially accepted as the head coach of Macon County High School’s football program on Mon., Apr. 2.

Smith says he’s excited about the opportunity to come home to Tennessee.

“I’m from Cookeville. I’ve been coaching and teaching in Georgia for 18 years,†he said.

Smith graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville with a degree in Health and Fitness Education in 1992. He received his Master’s degree in 1994 and received his Ed.S. degree in 2005.

He began his coaching career at East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga.

Later, he took a position at Troup High School in LaGrange, Ga., where he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the football team as well as serving in the capacity of assistant athletic director.

Most recently, Smith was head coach for Pebblebrook High School in Cobb County, Ga.

“Now I have the opportunity to come home to coach in Macon County.

“After 18 years away from Tennessee, we’ve been looking to come home. We want to be near our families as they enter their golden years, and, when we saw Macon County was open, we were excited.

“We love the small-town atmosphere. We’re really excited to get the opportunity. We’re excited to be back and to be part of the Tiger family.â€

Smith also brings his wife Donna with him to Macon County. They have a daughter, Brandy, who lives in Cookeville, and two sons, Jacob and Jarod.

Jacob will be joining the coaching staff at Macon County High School.

The football team will begin spring practice on April 30.

“We’re just going to change the philosophy that we have here. We’re going to change our defense and some offensive philosophy, and we’re going to get back into a strict discipline program on the field.

“We’re just going to try to extend from the success that Macon has had and build from there.â€

Smith replaces Mark Pemberton, who resigned last month after coaching the Tigers for two seasons.

He will be instructing the school’s weight training program.

    • Yeah they both should be good games whoever matches up with who. Wartburg has beaten Oliver Springs all 4 times they’ve played this year but they have been close games. I believe Wartburgs first sectional appearance was last year when they went to North Greene. Good luck to you all!
    • What did they do this year? Every other year, I’ve gone to one. It’s been a little scrimmage and then a bunch of games like a quarterback throwing challenge, O line versus D line, push-up challenge, etc.    But not surprised, nothing new that the program has been on the decline since they lost their recruiting middle school coach. The baseball coach still does his fair share, but he recruits good baseball players. Not good football players, and decent baseball players, definitely nothing like the middle school coach could do, he left for a middle school job down near Cleveland high school a few years back.
    • Never in my life have I seen a team in a scrimmage against their own defense look so lost and confused. The defense didn’t look much better, the coaching staff can’t keep their anger together, not only with the players but also with their other coaches. I feel awful for those players. None of them look like they wanted or should’ve been out there, but for the grown men on the sidelines acting like fools, it's just embarrassing to the Farragut name and reputation. I now see why they chose not to live stream this on their YouTube channel.
    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
