2012 Boys AAU State Basketball Championships

Recommended Posts

Not sure, to be honest, though the team is still very closely associated with the 147 Million Orphans adoption support organization.

How did Team 147/ A4O look this past weekend? The Vision chose to go to Charlotte NC and play in the Michael Jordan Brand Classic. They went 5-0 in the tournament. They beat UC Ballers 55-12, The Pro Skills 13 and Under 63-14, the Carolina Select 63-19, the Chattanooga Elite 58-51 (they beat them in the substate 58-40) and the East Tennessee Pyro 53-38 in the Championship. Looking forward to YBOA state this weekend.

The schedule for the YBOA state tournament was released yesterday and Team 147/A4O was not listed. I was wondering if they were playing elsewhere this weekend.

Any word on Team 147?

Sorry for the silence.... I hate it when work and life get in the way of Coach T updates!

147 laid a complete egg in Memphis at AAU State 13U. In game one 147 lost to the Memphis Wareagles "B" team by 4 after having beaten the "B's" three weeks ealier by 16. (Almost the exact same thing happened to 147 last year when they lost to the "B's" at YBOA State, but 147 came back to win it all. Not this year.) Coach Bray (Wareagles) did a great job in the game and they hit 7 threes in the second half to erase a 4 point half-time deficit. One of 147's starters sat out the game, but take nothing away from the Wareagles - they earned the win.

In Game 2, 147 lost a heartbreaker to the Wareagles A team (who many called the favorite in the state). 147 won the first 3 quarters and had a 5 point lead with 3:57 to go. At that point, the Wareagles went on a 15 -2 run and won by 7.

At that point, 147 was locked into the 7th/8th place game. 147 beat Team M&M (mostly, if not all, Brentwood Academy kids) 60 - 39 in that game. So, 147 had a very disappointing 7th place finish at AAU State. I didn't stick around, but as I understand it, Team Penny beat the Wareagles A squad in the championship game.

After taking Memorial Weekend off, 147 decided not to go to YBOA State and instead traveled to Atlanta this past weekend for the Converse Tournament of the Americas hosted by D1spects. In Atlanta they beat the Atl Knicks - Orange and the Georgia Stars in pool play.

The #1 Team in GA - the Atlanta Knicks - Blue, got upset in pool play by the Atlanta Celtics Gold so 147 played the Knicks - Blue in the quaterfinals on Sunday. The Knicks had 5 players taller than 147's tallest and were REALLY good. (As I understand it, the Knicks Blue had not lost to a team in GA all year.) A Knick banked in a 3 at the buzzer to send the game into OT. After the Knicks took a 2 point lead with :18 to go, 147's Jack McDonald hit a 3 as time ran out to win the game. Unbelievably exciting.

In the semis, 147 took on Team World Wide (the team 147 beat in the 2010 YBOA National Championship and the 2011 YBOA National Semis). Same story. World Wide took a 1 point lead with 8 seconds left. 147's Anthony Ochoa caught a half-court rocket pass from Jeremiah Oatsvall and hit a shot with :04 to go to win by 1.

In the finals, 147 took on the Atlanta Celtics Gold (the #2 team in GA). 147's Jeremiah Oatsvall hit all 14 of the team's first quarter points, including 4 threes in a row. In the end, 147 beat the Celtics 48-36 to take the Championship. 147's Anthony Ochoa, Tyler McNair and Grayson Murphy all made the All Tourney team. Jeremiah Oatsvall was the tourney MVP.

It was a nice bounce back after AAU State and will hopefully propel the team to a good showing at AAU Nationals in a couple of weeks. They are playing this weekend at the Tournament of Champions at USBA in Cool Springs.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
