On Tuedsay Aug 21st , Times Free Press Sports section had a headline " Simmons aiding Baylor", It is

an article on a new "transfer senior" Jaylen Simmons from Happy Valley High School in Johnson City. It

explained how he has helped Baylor's football tremendously.( No problem, they have the right to recruit )

However, at the end of the article Coach Massey stated the reason he came to Baylor was and I quote: " he was looking for a stiffer academic challenge"

This was not in the paper but was known first hand ,there was another "senior" student that was going to transfer to Baylor from Science Hill in Johnson City but for some reason he did not work out. He also happened to have excellent football skills.......

the batman has no idea what he is talking about there was another student that is still at science hill that was interested in baylor but he is not a senior and could not qualify for baylor.

I dont understand why someone can't accept that sometimes a family decides for good reasons to attend a private school that just may change their family for generations to come.

it would be a waste of time to further try to explain this and many other situations but I can assure you that there are just as many kids "recruited" to public schools as there are to the privates so get over yourself and deal with it...

Mr. Shakinthefat,

The article was in the paper and read in the paper( times free press ) not the message board, that is where the comments came from ( sorry you did not catch that in my earlier)

, and Mr. reddad, so you are telling me that Jaylon Simmons would still have attended Baylor even if he could not have played football for the sake of changing a family's life for generations to come. I didn't realize the power of Baylor to change the world ....

I will get over myself as you suggest and I ask you to get over your belief that Baylor is far superior than any other educational institution and anyone should jump at the chance to go there

i know - can you imagine? a kid wanting to attend a premier private and boarding school? i'm not a baylor fan or alumni but it is a great school. and batman/robin might want to check out the tn-ssean today. TN is next to last in the nation in ACT scores - and that is not driven by private schools. if you think so, i have a bridge in brooklyn to sell to you. holy watermelon batman!!

Stopped by, read these posts and already had read the Tennessee ACT article an hour earlier. Rather embarassed and all in the State should be also. One thing stood out, "7% of Black Students were college ready to ATC graduate." The second thing that stood out was "private schools are not under the same mandate at publics to test 100% for ACT ready. Why? Baylor is a very good school and this discussion likely should not be on this site. Embarasses both sides. The transfer was totally legal and it looks as if that is the only thing that matters. Things must be tough in recruiting these days too. Reminds me of a story out of the Tennessean which could be pertinent and maybe not. Concerned a 300 ld lineman from a small school who transfered to a Private school, finally had to transfer back out of the Private to a Public just to graduate, Don't remember the details in between but he did make it to a State University but not sure he ever played. Wierd things happen but its all right. He got a great education but did he?. That one was for football but its all right. Its legal and he got what he wanted finally. See nothing wrong with this except the story has not been totally told. Maybe the poster is just a little early in posting. Maybe he should wait to see if the kids goes to college and where they go.

good post ph and the batman as I said before has no idea what he is talking about. I didn't say that baylor is the best on the planet but it is a great school and it as well as the other schools in this division do offer kids more in fact much more than most if not all public schools in tennessee. and it really is best to keep your mouth shut when you dont know what your talking about.

    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
