Is it not funny how all these Memphis area kids are ranked in the top 25 yet the Gold Balls always come to East TN. Anyone find this strange, or is it just me?

Memphis has more athletes recognized because it has ATHLETES. Why do you think college coaches flock there to recruit? You all are delusional if you think it's because the head coaches there have a much better 'system'. I love NE Tennessee and the football here, but don't kid yourselves into thinking the high schools here have kids on that level-- not even close.

The gold balls reside mostly in the east because of better coaching. Think of the best, most recognized athletes from NET and consider where they end up playing. I promise you most Memphis city school teams have 5-6 players that get a D1 look, even if the team is horrid.

I understand the premise of your entire post. But the statement above is just overkill. MOST Memphis City Schools DO NOT HAVE 5-6 players to get a look from D1 programs. That is just blatantly an exaggeration. There are a select few programs that may have multiple D1 student athletes to D1 scholly's from time to time.

Yes ... there are some Memphis City High school coaches who have figured out the recruiting process more so then other coaches (In Memphis). Their ability to draw college recruiters to their program is a product of having a winning program and teaching their student athletes how to use the recruiting mechanism to their advantage. There are some coaches in Memphis who have put in the work in that regard. It isn't something magical ... and it isn't just because there are athletes at the high school. Take a look at the list of high schools on the list in this blog written by the Commercial Appeal's Prep sportswriter and you will notice that some schools represent more the others. That isn't by accident or happenstance. It's by design and a focused concerted effort. It just doesn't happen otherwise.

Yes and some Memphis coaches get new cars and cash payouts from recruiters. Some players do also. I think thats by design also.

Where there are big money programs with big money boosters involved, there will be corruption. It's the few who indulge that make it look bad for the majority that don't. It's sad that it happens, but it does.

    • Colton Faust played a lot as a freshman. I look for Julius Douglas to do well. I would love to have seen Thomas Manu stay at Maryville and play receiver. What has hurt Maryville the last 2 years is not having those outstanding skill players at WR and DB. There has been no AJ Davis or Kelby Brock type receiver at Maryville the last few years.
    • I see your point on the timing of when you play Alcoa.  I did not think West would reload after winning it the first time and they did. A three peat is hard for sure but until they stop it hard to pick against them. I was told they had 107 returning players(rising soph-SR) from at their banquet
