Youth tournaments on Sundays -- Thoughts & Input please?

Due to scheduling conflicts with our facility this year, we are considering moving our youth tournament to a Sunday. I know there are very few tournaments scheduled in this area on Sundays and would like to get thoughts and input and projected attendance. Would you come on a Sunday? Why are there no Sunday tournaments in this area? Any other issues you forsee with a Sunday tournament? Sunday tournaments are common in the Northeast and Midwest and regularlly draw good numbers.

We have developed a great tournament system, we have a great facility, and, according to many who have attended, run one of the most efficient tournaments around. Our goal is to set a date so that we are not competing with other tournaments but we are very limited in our facility availabliity on Saturdays.

Also thoughts on AAU, USA, or independent sanctioned tournaments--does it matter?

Any feedback is appreciated.

We are in Bristol. This will be our 4th year hosting the Bristol Brawl and it has grown so much that we have outgrown the local school gyms and now host out tournament in Viking Hall, Bristol's local civic center. We draw from all the surrounding states including VA, NC, SC, GA, WV, PA, KY, MD. Each year we have wrestlers from several states and have had participation from as far away as Florida,Ohio, New York, and MO. We have seating for over 6,000 and a great system in place to run the tournament.

Our only problem is scheduling around public events at the venue and are therefore limited on choosing our dates. In addition, we try to be good neighbors and be respectful of others when scheduling so that we don't double or triple book a weekend and dilute the competition. The majority of our wrestlers come from VA, TN, & NC. The TN AAU schedule is full every Saturday in January & February and both NC & Virginia fill up in those months as well. We are trying to consider all options to help grow our tournament and help grow the sport.

Thanks for your input!
