This is something I have been wondering about. Can anyone tell me, can a school choose to compete in a higher classification if they want to. Example, can a 1A school choose to compete in the 2A classification if they want, even though their student enrollment puts them in the 1A classification?

Yes. It is done frequently. For example, Signal Mountain has 3a numbers but plays in the 4a playoff brackets.
