Screaming coaches..

So what is everyones opinion of coaches constantly yelling at their players? I mean..I've been around several coaches and have seen different styles of coaching..but it seems to me that the ones that do the most yelling seem to get the least positive response.

Screaming and cursing should be reserved for the right moment in all aspects of the game so in the rare event you do it, people believe in it. Overusing either shows lack of intelligence and ultimately lack of trust in your players.

It's effective my friend.. Coaches shouldn't just be there to win ball games.. They should be there with the idea in mind that you want to make those kids better than you were. Role models are rare these days, what better opportunity to be one than to be in the position to touch a young man's life every day for 5+ months

My head coach at Page for my freshman to junior year didn't do any yelling accept for a few a rare moments which I felt like didn't help anybody. The defensive coordinator who beacame my head coach senior year did his fair share of yelling but most of the time it was at appropriate times. His yelling and style made us a very disciplined football team, we also had several assistants yelled but less often. I'm all for yelling.

Matters with the young men your working with... Some will take to it like a fish to water and will become twice the player they were; others will shut everything out and hide in a cacoon. You have to know your players.

Your senior year head coach was my d coordinator my senior year. He lost a few great players from that school due to the way he treated them. You have to be approachable.. You look like an idiot if all you do is yell. "Praise in public, discipline in private"

Now there is a difference between yelling and being intense.. Intensity is HUGE.

There is also a difference in yelling for criticism and yelling for positive reasons or to build a nice football atmosphere

So when you were a senior was it his first year? I'm just curious because I think I would have been a freshman when you were a senior. As far as he goes he got better about the way he yelled and what reasons he had for doing it. Sometimes it was going to far but it still taught us not to do those same stupid things again. He had his moments and definitely went to far. Overall I still think some of our success as a team was due to that discipline.

Yelling was supposed to be the last word not discipline. Messed up my word choice.
