CougarPride3
Ive seen all of the posts about this but never seem to get clear answers. So this year we had a Freshman who came over from Sycamore. Played the whole football seadon and started in alot of games. Right after football is over, he bolts back to Sycamore and is playing on their varsity basketball team. Can anyone explain how this is possible? Before anyone brings up financial hardship, the family has money.
DCnAtion
This does seem a little strange. We've had two different cases here, one player transferred to a region opponent and had to sit out a calendar year. Another player we had transferred and has been at four different schools since his Freshman year and has played at three of them. Who knows how they pick and choose this. Is Goodpasture not fighting this?
Cleggy
Well, according to TSSAA regulations there are several factors that would allow for immediate eligibility such as a bona fide change of residence. This was done a couple of years ago when a student transferred from East Robertson to White House Heritage in the middle of football season. He played for both varsity teams that year. I beleive that his parents had a bona fide change of residence which allowed him to be immediately eligible upon his transfer to Heritage. This is important otherwise you would be punishing student-athletes for something out of their control, such as their parents moving for whatever reason. I think that these same regulations apply to transfers from private to public schools and vice versa. Without one of the qualifying conditions being present, a student athlete must sit out a calendar year to regain eligibility in the major sports such as football, basketball, etc. To become completely aware of the specific transfer rules as they apply to eligibility you must refer to the TSSAA handbook. irnhead
The player must have a bona fide change of address to be eligible. It is very frustrating when you lose a player, especially to a rival.
randymc
We had one here where a player played for one school in basketball until Christmas, got mad transferred to another achool in town and played the rest of the season. He moved I am sure. Something about that is not right, whether you move or not. Two teams in one season.
