What has happened to Hixson basketball?

Can anyone tell me what has happened to Hixson basketball. I know they play in a tough district but they have always played in that tough district and used to be very successful. I went to watch them the other night and they have some good looking players and athletes, they just don't play basketball very well. Many times they just look like they were out there doing whatever. Just don't get it. They have had a losing record the past few years and with the Seniors they have this year leaving, the future may not be very bright. Just wondering. There is a tradition of not only winning but they used to be the team that was very hard to beat years ago. Now, they are just getting beat. ALOT! If anyone know what has happened, please let me know.

They played really well last night, bad coaching lost that game DeMonte is a beast and the kid name Shadon is really good he just don't play him enough.I was told the coach was running J.V. like a dog before there game with East Hamilton yesterday and most of his players don't like him. But who knows?

when was the last time Hixson was good in BBall? I would say they have always been solid in football though

They were just in the District Finals 5 years ago against Howard and won the District in 05. Went to the Region in all of those years. Football hadn't even been to the playoffs in the last seven years until Fitzgerald arrived and did a great job. Basketball was very good mid 90s and early 2000's. There were many 20 win seasons during that time. As a Hixson alumni, I am changing my mind about sending my son to Hixson when he is in high school. I just can't understand why seeing them at the beginning of the year and now, they are doing the same things, making the same mistakes and are not better and have alot of experience on that team. Surely they could finish in the top 4 and go to the Region with the athletes they have. Just don't get it. Edited by oochie

The better athletes (from the last 4-5 years) have come from Howard, Tyner and Brainerd. Only two(2) can advance from the Region and for the past few years it's been Howard and Tyner. Eight teams in the Region must be reduced to two!! Remember it's more about coaching when you get past the District playoffs!!

Hixson gets beat by almost 40 last night. Are you kidding? Now is the time that you should be playing better at least and getting into rhythm and playing together to get ready for the district tournament. Definitely not happening here. Last night was horrible. Can't win if team is centered around one player only and no one else is contributing or allowed to contribute. Definitely noticed last night after watching, it is the coaching. TERRIBLE! Didn't have team prepared, didn't know what to do or when to do it. I answered my own question about what has happened to Hixson basketball.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
