Any thoughts on the teams at the Early Bird tournament? Orcat, its your gym. Any thoughts? Saw your girls Friday night. They looked to be playing well. Unfortunately you were playing at the same time as CAK so my attention was focused there. Not very happy with my Warriors as the got behind in a few set this weekend and lets some game slip away.

Knight, they stared the day beating HV but then lost two very close three set matches to Webb and Baylor. I guess there was a two way tie and CAK moved on to the gold bracket. There they beat Bearden in three and Webb in two and are now playing Hillcrest in the championship game. I heard that HC has won two state championships. CAK is wore out but hope they can make a game out of it. We'll see!

Nobody out. Lost a close match to Webb and couldnt get motivated to play Baylor. They did however make it out of pool play into the gold bracket were the beat Bearden. Then had a rematch with Webb and won. Then had to play two time SC state champs for the Campionship and lost. HC had a long break and CAK played three back to back and were just too gassed to pull it out. They lost a couple of close games this weekend but I think they are really coming together as a team. I think they will be much improved by State tournament time.

As many club players as they have, and the size, there is no excuse to lose to Webb or Baylor. Do you think the coach is making the right move not playing the tall girl in the middle?

I think CAK is loaded with the most talent in knoxville, and have generally been supportive of the coach. But, I am concerned that he is out of his league with the talent he has, and doesn't know how to use the height?

I really liked the asst he had last year, and thought she was great. Is that causing a problem?

I remember playing in this tournament. The girls play so many games that by the end of the tourney it's no longer who is the best team. It's the survival of the fitest!! CAK lost to Baylor and Webb because frankly (like I said before) they are not that good. They will probably win their district and good decently far but thats because their region stinks!!

Well Blue, CAK finished second out of 28 teams so they must be doing something right. They did beat Webb to play in the championship game. I think they could hang with any of the AAA schools around knoxville. I'm not saying they are the best team in town but to say they are not very good? Take those blue and yellow blinders of and see whats going on around you.

Orcat, I think the tall girl has asked to play right side because that is where she wants to play in college. He has a little bit of talent coming up in the middle. There is another girl over 6' playing in ther now. She is new to volleyball but doing well.

Volleyball is a TEAM sport. The coach is not to cater to what is best for one player, but is to do what is best for the team.

I know that CAK is a private school, and the parents are paying to be there, and you are probably being nice is saying that she "asked" to play right side.

What if she "asked" to play setter. Would he have said sure to keep her on the team? He played her middle the last two seasons.

Disappointed in this coach, but it explains why they under perform. They should still be undefeated.

EBTHER, not only should they hang, I think they should dominate Knoxville. I didn't expect them to lose a game.

What if the Libero "asks" to play MH?

Surely you are making this up?

I hope this opens the teams eyes and the coach starts focusing on what's best for CAK, and not what's best for one star player.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
