I am sending my wrestler to 3 camps this summer. I figure he will get about 45 practices and 25 to 35 matches out of the 3 Im sending him to about 20 days total. 2 technique camps and 1 intensive. This year he was about 8-17 as a hwt. & these are hwt camps specifically. My question to you gurus is how much improvement should we expect to see?

Thanks for you opinion.

It depends on how hard he works, how much he studies and internalizes what he is taught, and his natural athletic ability. Going to camps in and of itself doesn't guarantee improvement.

If he uses the camps as a learning opportunity and not a time to play for 20 days, he should come out of there with better skills. I always looked at camp as getting a season of experience in a short period of time. That is what I would expect out of it. You mentioned he was a heavyweight. The best improvement he can make is to increase his strength and stamina as well as getting faster. That goes back to natural ability, but there is a difference between what you can do and what you are able to do. Many a good athlete could do better, but did not becuase he didn't put the time into practice and self improvement. In the heavyweight division, you will win more matches with better stamina and movement than your opponent.

I would like to forward some information to all concerning camps.  My oldest

son went to camps in high school. All were good. BUT. . .

When my son was lucky enough to attend a weekend with "LEE KEMP", it

changed his life.  If any have ever met Mr. Kemp, you will know what I'm

talking about.  My son and MANY other future state champs from TN walked away

from that weekend with a drive of excellence.  He no longer wanted to just

win his matches, but Lee actually changed the way that he viewed life.

It won't be cheap, but it will be worth more than you spend.  Find Mr. Kemp

and get him to do some camps.  I believe that just about every high school

wrestler in attendance that weekend became a state champion?  He doesn't

just teach technique, he teaches life lessons.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
