I was impressed.  I got to watch several good games

yesterday.  South Cumberland had a very good team in AAA, but I must say that Nolichucky had a very good team.  I had heard about them from their first game against Livingston.  I figured I would go to see what teams had what.  They are as good as any middle school team I have seen in a long time and I have watch middle school basketball all over the nation.  I would have liked to have seen them play South Cumberland, but I don’t think they would have had much of a problem.  They played tough man defense, rushed the other team, could score inside, and could knock down the outside shots.  Then they brought in a few off the bench who could handle the game.  I bet they could have played with some of the boys teams and even high school teams.  Anyone know if they had a lot of eighth graders?  I am curious as to what they have coming back.

I saw where Nolichucky was from Greene County - I think that is a hotbed for girls basketball.  I wish I could have seen them.  South Cumberland is a good team, their main two scorers are both 7th Graders, so they should be back next year - lots of good 5th and 6th grade talent there plus good coaching.  South Cumberland ran into a real good team out of Maryville earilier this year at Farragut Tournament in Knoxville - I can't recall the name though.  I thought overall, the competition at the TNT and James C. Haile was weaker this year - girls and boys.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
