Maybe it's because of the distance most of the other 3A programs are located.  53 schools in the state are listed as 3A and eleven of those and somewhat close to our district.  HVHS is listed as AA Disrict 1 - 3A with the others close by being;

 1)  Aloca

 2) Austin East

 3) CAK

 4) Chuckey-Doak

 5) Cumberland Gap

 6) Gatlinburg-Pittman

 7) Johnson County

 8) Pigeon-Forge

 9) Sullivan North

10) West Greene

Six of these teams are about an hours drive, the other five are approximately an hour and a half (plus).  That's why so many teams are playing more local teams, you either play up or down.  Even the A District 1   A & 2A teams have beating them so it's not just a 4A thing.

They are exactly where they are supposed to be given their student population. 3A&4A schools play together in the same regular season conference (to reduce travel) then separate for the playoffs (for the "fairness" aspect. All that will change next year when all of the conferences are realigned to only have teams in the same class.

Next year HV will be 2A and will have a better chance to win a few games.They have some talent but just not enough.

I'm hoping we get to move up a class, if the current configuration happens that I saw all but 1 Sullivan County school will be a class above us and we will be with Greeneville and Johnaon County and then a bunch of schools a distance away.

. Huh? You are saying all of the Sullivan county schools are moving up and us, Greeneville, and Johnson county are the only teams from this area that will still be 4a?

Right now East, South, and Central are all around 900 which will be the bottom end of 4A. Last projection I saw had Volunteer as the biggest 4A at 1177. That will all move around a little when the new numbers come out. I bet Greeneville and Elizabethton will want to play up.
