WAYNE DUNN PASSES AWAY

WE LOST A GREAT FRIEND TO WRESTLING YESTERDAY, WAYNE DUNN. HE WAS AN ALL-AMERICAN FOOTBALL PLAYER AND WRESTLER AT MARYVILLE COLLEGE IN THE LATE 1970'S. HE STARTED WRESTLING TEAMS AT WEBB SCHOOL IN KNOXVILLE AND SUMMIT HS NEAR NASHVILLE AND OFFICIATED FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

First met Coach Dunn many years ago when he was coaching at Maryville, my brother and I went down for a camp he was running. I was probably a sophomore in HS. Good guy, knew his stuff. Great family, he really adored his family. Always wanted to do more with the sport, whether it was putting on the stripes and reffing or starting up a program at Summitt he always wanted to do more and get more involved.

 

RIP Coach, you will be missed.

This is just stunning news. Wayne not only coached my son in football at Summit, but was my neighbor until last year. My son and all the young men Wayne coached at SHS in both football and wrestling are very saddened by this news. RIP Coach Dunn. You will be missed greatly.

I was talking to my mother about Coach Dunn the other day and she told me that when my brother and I went to his camp at Maryville those many years ago, we didnt have the money for us to go. She emailed him and told him this and his response was, "Do they know how to mop mats?" and that is how we paid for our camp visit. Thats just the type of person he was, always giving.
