Girls Basketball Coaching vacancies

Coach Barrett did a good job with decent talent at Hickman County and then went to a Riverdale team and won a state championship.  Granted, to do anything less than win a state championship with that team would have been a disappointment, but they did win.  The last two years have been really good, but could have been better.

He is damaged goods right now and will do a good job if someone gives him a chance, but even if an athletic director wants him, the powers that be in the upper administration of a school system will have a difficult time taking the bad publicity.  Hopefully, he will get a second chance.

Agree.  The biggest thing I believe though is the bad publicity will subside the minute Coach Barrett takes a program, starts coaching, and folks in the community and school see what he is about and get behind him.  His contacts with college coaches across the country are phenomenal.  He knows how to get college coaches in the door to showcase talent for scholarships, and knows how to build programs.  Again, under Cory, every kid at Riverdale but one has gone on to play in college, and the kid that chose not to play two seasons ago had juco offers.  Another had a golf scholarship.  Scholarships even went to kids who were deep in rotation and seldom played.  He is that good and dedicated to helping his kids get to the next level.  Fans quickly forgive and forget when their team wins a district championship and is a state contender.   Some school will pick up a major asset to their program.  I put my bottom dollar on it the same coaching mistake will not be made twice.  To me, he knows he is watched and scrutinized, and will be a safe hire. He is a great person outside of coaching as well.  I wish him the best.

What a mess at Dickson! Sounds like no matter who gets the job, they will be unwanted by one side or the other. Not a good position to be in. When taking a new job, you hope that you are wanted and supported by the powers that be, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Agree that Barrett is a quality coach who will work hard at it. I do think it will be hard for an administration to sign off on that decision so soon after the debacle at Riverdale... but then again Smyrna did hire Bud "The Nature Boy" Brandon. So, who knows.

I also like the Blackman hire. Coach Jackson will do a good job there. I am a little shocked that Dawn Barger, her assistant coach, hasn't surfaced as a strong candidate for one of these head coaching jobs and decided to follow Jackson to Blackman. She was a really good head coach at Lake Co!

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
