The Gate City/Elizabethton scrimmage will be next Thursday starting at 6pm at Legion Field. For any of you folks coming up just take 26 towards Virginia, go until 26 forks, stay left at the sign that says "Gate City" go North on highway 23 all the way through Weber City, once you go under the underpass you'll be entering Gate City town limits. Take the exit (right) at the next red light you see. (You should pass a gas station, package store, and used car lot) you'll then be crossing a bridge immediately after exiting then the school is on your right. Take a right at the LED school sign then the another right at the wall that has "welcome to big blue country" painted on it. You should be able to park anywhere at the school.

Science Hill fan here. With the home-opener vs Elizabethton just a little over 2 weeks away, who can give me some info on this year's Cyclones team?

They are young but still have some skilled players and will be throwing the ball more this year.We have some good size on the offensive and defensive line. That being said I don't believe we can beat SH but that's why you play the game.Just playing a school the size of SH says a lot for a school the size of Betsy.Hope it's a good game and best of luck to both teams.

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to lie, I'm glad Ethan Thomas graduated. That kid was good. You all relied heavily on him though so it will be interesting to see this year's Cyclones team without him. I'm interested in seeing your passing game since it sounds like that will be more your strength this year. Any big play WR's? You all are breaking in a new QB too, right?

Should be a good game. Looking forward to it.

I think it will be like it usually is, SH will score early and fast and then we will make  a run but come up short. While we lost Ethan we still have some solid HBs and our QB is solid as well. Our lines will be a big factor this season. I also don't know much about the WRs as we've been weaker in that area for the past couple years

Thanks for all the info. You guys always play us pretty tough and I doubt this year will be any different. We've got a lot of talent back so I'm excited to see what this year's Toppers team can do. We lost McGue but our new QB, Justin Bedard (who was our RB last year), is a big, strong kid that has a lot of potential. We've also got a solid WR corp with most of last year's group back. The DL should be a real strength. They've looked dominant in scrimmages. The OL is a big group but they've still got some work to do. We also just got a really good transfer from DB that should help out big-time with the run game and contribute on defense as well.

The Cyclones starting running back Caleb Jones is out for the season because of a knee injury that happened on a jet ski. This will be a big loss and I hope he gets better and wish him the best.

I hate to hear that. He was a good one. Always sad when a kid gets hurt, especially before his sr season.

    • I have no affiliation with Maryville anymore outside of being a 2nd generation graduate from a large family of Rebel alumni. That relationship ended courtesy of the lame duck AD (a Bearden grad I might add) and the HBIC. That said, I could care less if a private school comes through and offers every promising athlete out of that school or any other school better opportunities.
    • A perfect example is for athletes at Clinton High School. I will completely understand, and hopefully everyone should understand why they want to, and as of right now, it looks like that’s going to happen in numbers over the summer.
    • I mean, that’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to your school that often, if at all, but yeah, I think everybody should be for the student athlete or player. Whatever they think will help them or their athletic career, I feel like they should be able to do that, even if that means transferring schools. Now I don’t really get that when you have almost every offer you could want and then jump ship, but what can I say? I guess money talks.
    • I for one am all for it.
    • Covid killed the city because they chose not to play football in the 2020 season. Therefore, kids weren't able to practice and develop, and continuing to lift weights. Memphis basically had 7/8 graders, skipping a year, then playing 9/10 high school football. Now, there's only one team that has made a "dent" which will be Southwind (made it to the 5A semifinals last year).  If you want to go more suburbs, then it'll be Houston, which won the 6A state title, defeating Oakland Other than that, I agree.
