Region 7-5A

With spring drills just around the corner, I just wanted to get some early thoughts and opinions on the new 7-5A region, which includes Brentwood, Centennial, Henry County, Dickson County, Clarksville, Northeast, Rossview, and West Creek.

Brentwood and Henry County both have new head coaches (Crawford at Brentwood and Counce Jr. at Henry County). That's about all I know about any of the teams in this region right now.

What's the word on everyone? I have a decent amount of info on HC naturally, but everyone else is a huge question mark to me. This should be a pretty tough region most years.

Iagree this will be a tough region most of the time. Mainly the top half. The two wilco schools are usually good. HC has been good for a while now and I dont see much changing with the new coach. Looks like the rest of the staff is staying intact for the most part. And the Clarksville area usually puts out one or two decent to good teams. Dickson is a question mark. They seem to be in a slump. Dont know what kinda talent they have coming up.

Just a shot in the dark right now, but heres my way too early prediction for this region

1. Centennial

2. Henry Co

3. Brentwood

4. Rossview

5. Clarksville

6. Northeast

7. Dickson Co

8. West Creek

wow!!! i did not know henry county had a new coach. did they even have a coaching search??

im really looking forward to our matchup this year. i dont think gallatin and hc have ever played in the regular season before.

Coaching search? Not really. Although I doubt the ones in charge here would ever admit it, this has likely been the plan ever since the Counces returned here 5 years ago. Heck, it was the plan back when they were at Dyersburg until that fell through.

No complaints here though. No one in Henry County is surprised by this from what I'm aware of. As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." And from what I know everyone on the staff is staying except Counce Sr and one other. I'd rather just keep the train going smoothly as possible than to start from scratch.

thats understandable. just seems like henry co would be a job that could attract some names. but i agree its hard to blame them for going this route. best of luck until game 4!  :thumb:

I would move Clarksville up to the #3 spot on the preseason rankings.

Rossview has lost a lot and this year will be the first year with Coach Shelby's full fingerprint on CHS Football.

Those boys are already a whole lot stronger than last year and their Junior running back will be an absolute beast to stop. I also think their senior QB will surprise a lot of folks. He's put in a lot of work and has patiently waited for his shot and this will be his year.

All in all, they will be better at almost every position this year.

I am really looking forward to this season. I feel pretty good about HC, especially having over 30 seniors this year. I do not know much about the teams on this new make-up. Is West Creek returning their QB? He put up a lot of numbers last year against HC and could see them being a good team. I will go ahead and make an early prediction, but I will admit I know very little on some of these teams and maybe we can get some more info:

1. Henry County

2. Centennial

3. Brentwood

4. Clarksville

5. West Creek

6. Rossview

7. Dickson Co.

8. Northeast

This could be a very interesting 1st year for this new region 7.

Centennial is coming off a great year and dropping down to 5A.

Henry County is coming off a good year. They didn't have the toughest schedule but still remained the top of their district and had a couple of play-off wins. They did experience a shift in coaching with the retirement of their head coach.

Brentwood is coming off a not-so-good year, but they are also dropping down to 5A and are getting their old coach Ron Crawford back.

Rossview had a good year, they are dropping down to 5A but are loosing a remarkable amount of talent.

Clarksville improved with their new coach last year but this year should show more of his impact after a full off-season with the team.

Dickson County is coming off a bad year, but also gets to drop down to 5A.

Northeast and West Creek have some good players.

Wont miss the Rossview/Clarksville rivalry! Guarantee an electric atmosphere!

I really don't know what to expect from Henry Co this year. I mean I'm sure we'll have the pieces to put together a solid team, but idk how we will stack up against everyone else. Whether we have a great, good, or mediocre year, none would really surprise me at this point. Several unknowns with this bunch.

We do have a big upcoming senior class as mentioned above, but we may have to depend on several underclassmmen at the skill positions. There is much talent and skill there, but only time will tell how it all blends together for 2015's sake.

Clarksville should be a tough team in the coming years once Shelby really gets his handprints on that program.

The Henry County community still foams at the mouth when it comes to football. Don't see that changing much any time soon. Counce Jr definitely has some big shoes to fill though. Nonetheless, he will have plenty of support. I think he will do a fine job.

Surprised we still haven't heard anything out of the Wilco or Dickson folks.

    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
