I don't know about disciplined. Maybe self-disclipined. Yes, there was a 19-0 score. Isn't there a TSSAA mercy rule? Referees have informed me before games of this.

Well, yes and no.

If BOTH coaches agree, they can run a shorter second half.  But it is an awkward set up.  As the team that is up, it can come across as arrogant to say "hey, do you want to play a shorter second half"?

Florida had a rule that if there was a 10 goal differential at half (or any time after half) the game was over.

This happens every year and the same responses back.

It happens due to severe mismatches in conference games, teams have to play other teams and you might as well have a D1 U16 team playing a D3 U10 team.  Teams have 11 players (or less) and majority of players who can't trap much less pass a ball.  These teams are located in rural areas of the state without the big $ of the clubs that players can attend.

So what does a coach from dominate school do?  His team scores 5 goals in a minute, 17 goals is probably still with the brakes on.  The coach can sit his starters for all these games, the starters get NO field work and then they play a competitive game and they haven't played for a week.  You put your JV players in, they are pumped to just be in the game.

You put a 10 pass restruction - you put a header only restriction.  Restrictions against a weak opponent have lead to more than one vicious foul as players get embarrassed.  There are few restrictions that go into play that are not obvious and insulting to the other team.

There is no easy answer - its easy to sit back and say "this coach should be ashamed" but offer a good solution when there are teams that will face 7-10 of these games in a season.

Mercy rule?  Great idea but the girls on the rural and county teams want to play - very few want to play 15 minutes get behind 10-0 and go home.  I've seen home teams not put goals on the scoreboard to make it not look so bad (but they have to report real scores) - honestly....its a problem but its not so simple an answer.

I understand the difference in talent levels.  But saying a coach can not stop the scoring is ridiculous.  I have personaly seen it done several times.  10 passes, headers, backup players...sure.  But coaches can not allow their players to go past mid field, work on defence and just clear it towards the other net, no shots or limit shots to outside 30-40 yards.  Things can be done.
