I went to the game tonight..............great game! Tough that someone had to lose. Reason I am posting is that I saw something that MJ ran on offense that I have not seen in over 50 years.

MJ started out running the "spread" concept vs the Ravens; it was not very effective.

Then they went to a form of the old-timey single wing attack, and made a game out of it. They ran the ball right at CR with much success.

But the real old-timey thing that MJ sprung on CR was the SHORT PUNT FORMATION, and they hurt CR bad with it. The Raven had no answer.

Back in the old 1940's - 50's in the single-wing era...............the Short Punt was in vogue by many coaches and teams. It made me chuckle..........I got to call Herschel Moore tomorrow, and tell him what I saw; he has a Short Punt playbook LOL.

I am old retired coach that loves wing-t type football..............this absolutely made my day. Hats off to the MJ staff for the trip back in time. Sorry about the loss.............well played and fought game by both teams

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
