Goodpasture @ FRA 16

I watched Goodpasture scrimmage DCA last month and although it was in early August the Cougars moved the ball up and down the field on DCA, who was probably the best team the Cougars faced in the preseason.  FRA will probably be the best team Goodpasture has faced this season so far.  Should be a good game that will be closer than many predict.

So did I. That scrimmage was to work on things needed to improve like the passing game and try out kids in spots. Held a few kids out who were banged up. It was a practice for DCA. Your highlights show a bunch of young skinny JV and freshmen running around on defense?

Coach Joslin took it a bit more seriously by running defensive stunts and trick plays on offense. Nothing wrong with that but the two programs are in different places so its fine.

Had DCA played it as a real game they win by two touchdowns or more.

I think Coach Joslin will bring kids in, establish a good foundation and turn the program around. Just my two cents.

FRA will cause GP problems. Still think they win convincingly.

Yea I agree this will be a good game and should give Goodpasture a better idea of how they might stack up against a more athletic team with "multiple SEC recruits".  Goodpasture is a totally different team this year.  Yes they are young in some positions but they do have a few seniors that had to sit out last year who are now finally getting to play that have made an instant impact to their Defense and Offense.

This game wasn't even close. Goodpasture had a 14 to 0 lead in 1st quarter and never was close. Every player on Goodpasture roster got in this game. Not sure who says FRA has "multiple SEC recruits" I did not see any IMHO.

Well, if you didn't kniow they had players offered by SEC teams like UT and LSU then you sould start reading recruting websites. Or, just ask your HS coaches because they know.

Yep, you are correct. I review all the recruiting sites. Yep you are correct, FRA was bigger, faster... FRA by 10+. WRONG... You can't measure heart of a player or a team playing together! I watched the two or three SEC type players FRA had, and they didn't show me anything! I'll take heart and desire of a player anyday!! . .

You guys won thats great! Good win for Coach Joslin. No need to question a kids heart though. Looks like your program is back on the right track.

Goodpasture dominated this game from start to finish. The outcome was never in doubt. FRA scored their lone TD on the freshmen at the end.

Wilhoit is going to be a special player for FRA. Not sure who else has gotten any attention, but they did not show anything Friday night.

FRA has some size especially Mitchell, but did not hold blocks. Their run game was lacking. Their special teams need attention badly.

Coach Joslin showed class by clearing the sidelines early in spite of not being showed the same last year. I told you after the  game last year Coach W that karma would come back to get you. It just did. I hope you took notes.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
