District 11AA

Saw where the AP High School Girls Basketball poll came out yesterday with Lewis County at #10. May be a bit of a stretch considering their schedule to this point. Hard to get a real read on any top team in this district as weak as 11AA  appears to be.

I believe Lewis is a good team but top 10 in the state might be a reach.

Seen Lewis play a couple times. See them winning district, may finish top 2 in region but to make it past sub-state will take some luck. Anything can happen in basketball and they do have the talent to compete. Like 11AAFan said schedule looks too weak to get them prepared for big stage I do believe

Creek Wood beats Lewis County at home, after blowing a lead at Lewis County. Is Creek Wood the best team in the district? LC has the better record, but their strength of schedule is in the 100's in AA, CW has a strength of schedule in the 60's. I have seen Creek Wood play but not Lewis County, and it seems like CW plays hard, shoots pretty well, and plays very good team basketball. I hope to see LC play in Waverly this week if my schedule allows.

Made it to the Waverly-LC game late in the first quarter expecting the game to be over. Hard for me to believe that LC was a Top 10 team in AA. They turned the ball over against a mediocre, at best, defense. Not sure if it was just an off night for them or not, but they did not play very well, and there record appeared to be more a reflection of their weak schedule. #13 was the best player on the floor for them last night, and her teammates stopped getting her the ball when she was open. I thought Waverly was extremely scrappy, and #22 was everywhere for them. The game was close for most of the second half. I hope the Camden-Stewart Co game Friday is a close one to watch.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
