Martin Westview @ Covington - 9/29/17

Covington is coming off an Open date, to play Martin Westview for homecoming. One of our previous head coaches told me that you never know how your players will respond to a Homecoming game. They may get fired up and play really well, or they can get caught up in the floats and parade and lose focus entirely. I'm hoping that after a week off our Chargers will be chomping at the bit to get back on the field.

It's been several years since Covington played Westview. They have been a tough opponent in the past, but on paper this year the rating services don't think the matchup is very even. The Score Predictor says Covington 36 Westview 14. The Sonny-Moore power rankings show Covington at 121, Westview at 102. The difference is 19, then add 3 for home field advantage. I find it interesting that both sources predict a 22 point victory for the Chargers.

Any thoughts on this game?

It's not homecoming that's next week against Ripley. I think we'll do well but u never know.

The Cov.  Chargers will pull this one off.  I think the players have plenty of confidence coming off the big win in Milan!! This win should put us in the driver seat in the region.  Go Covington Chargers!!

Westview is still down and don't look good for the next couple of years.

What happened to their program? Just a natural down period in talent, or did other schools end up with players who should be at Westview?

Covington had some of that, with players who would have been at Covington ending up at Brighton. Still, Covington has done pretty well, playing for the Gold Ball three times since 2000.

Covington had some of that, with players who would have been at Covington ending up at Brighton. Still, Covington has done pretty well, playing for the Gold Ball three times since 2000.

 

I understand it's a second year coach. Also, Dresden is getting alot of their players.

Westview really dropped in the latest Sonny-Moore rankings. They are now at 93, to Covington's 121. The difference is 28, plus 3 for home field, making the Covington Chargers 31 point favorites. Let's see how this comes out tonight.
