cbg
Noting against McCallie because they must fill the tournament but with the large number of Georgia teams it appears to have become the Georgia Invitational. What happened to the day's when the top Tennessee joined in on the fun?

About when approximately did these "days" take place? Back before the split, definitely. Since the public school split into A/AA and AAA, not so much. Past 7 - 10 years, not so much. In between gets a little fuzzy for me. Which top Tennessee schools? A quick brainstorm activity on the topic brings up several plausible reasons. D2 schools now compete against one another more often due to the creation of state sectionals and some coaches do not want to face one another several times before the state qualifying & championship tournaments. New head coaches over the years decide to change their team's schedule. Sometimes just because or sometimes because of relationships with other coaches who are hosting events at the same time. Strength of programs wane, which leads coaches to believing their kids aren't ready for the MIWT. Some coaches get pissed about being ejected by an official and hold the host school responsible and decide not return the following year. It's happened. Geography. McCallie is in Chattanooga, TN, which is on the Georgia/Tennessee state line. .... As a history, and former world geography teacher, I really like #5. -TH

cougarcatcher
MIWT used to be the premier wrestling tournament in the Tri-State area... state champions, state placers, and nationally ranked guys in every weight class. Not anywhere close to that anymore. And Tennessee splitting up the public school division is a joke, might I add.

Now, this year's MIWT does have state champions, state placers, and nationally ranked guys. As for TSSAA splitting up the public school division, it's pretty much a subjective opinion. Some definitely agree with you, for sure. -TH
