McConnell will ride this 2018 season out on the back of he his Senior studded team in hopes of reaching the gold ball (which is VERY likely) imo with the high powered offense of Seniors #11 Gavin Stanfield #45 Montez Bradley #37 JD Dixon #10 Colton Cochran.

Truth is... McConnell WILL be gone after the 2018 season. He won’t be leaving for a team like Milan either. He will be heading to a big school. 4A 5A 6A type teams where football is life and athletes galore.

Bet!

Not to worry Tiger Fans... there is hope after the McConnell era.

My vote is Randall Boldin the Whitwell Tigers HC. Former Waverly Tiger stud. Heck of a Coach!! Look what he has done at Whitwell.

He would be a good candidate to go to Waverly but let’s be fair. The Whitwell teams from 2017-2018 are the best ones they have seen in over 25 years. The talent pool they have again this season is the best in the Sequatchie Valley as far as senior classes go. Any coach worth his salt would have that group of Tigers winning. Helton or Malone would have made it to the quarterfinals last season as well.

Every school has talented kids. It’s whether a coach can get them to play football and utilize them correctly, and give them the tools they need to succeed.

For years people stated Waverly just didn’t have talent. Wrong. A lot of the talented kids were there, just didn’t want to play football. You could find them on the basketball court, baseball field, or just walking the halls in the school.

A good coach pulls talent into their program and utilized them.

Mcconnell has done that and I believe Boldin has too.

Waverly needs a coach who has their heart imbedded in the Waverly Football Program and in the community that is there to stay.. not just there for a few years to build his resume.

Waverly has long been used as a stepping stone for coaches. And sadly it will continue to be after McConnell leaves unless the Administration and School Board INVEST $$$ in a great coach like McConnell or you land someone like Boldin whose heart is in Waverly .

The job that Matt McConnell has done at Waverly has been incredible.  Their football program had hit rock bottom upon his arrival.  He's made them a winner again and they'll be among the favorites to win it all in 2A this year.  Non region games against Huntingdon, Fairview, and Davidson Academy will be huge tests for them during the regular season.  I also wouldn't suspect Camden to be at the level they were a year ago.  They'll field a competitive team also.
