With spring practice almost here, what are some thoughts on the Eagles this season? Any players you are looking forward to seeing or you think are underrated that could get more attention? Feel free to post different things. Just trying to get the conversation rolling.

How bout the young man (running back)  who transferred in from Florida last fall?

I think his name was TJ Anthony. I haven't heard anything about him, but he did express interest in playing on the team this season since he had to sit out due to transfer rules last season. He was able to play in one JV game if I'm not mistaken, and I attached the link to it below. He looks awesome and would probably make the two deep at running back if he comes back.

That running back is no longer here. Losing over 20 seniors including our leading scorer is never easy. One good thing is that we got Blackman off the schedule and replaced them with Brainerd who only won 2 games last year. That along with Marion that is also a 2A team, gives us 2 easy wins. We should always be good enough to beat McMinn, Soddy, Walker Valley, and Lenoir City so we should have at least 6 wins with this schedule and be 2nd in the region. Pemberton will be a third year starter at QB and that experience always helps. The rest of the backfield will not have a lot of experience but should have some talent from the Jr. class. Remember, those are the kids that went undefeated at Rhea Middle and beat Baylor and Maryville. I think this could be a really good year for us.

I heard yesterday that we were losing a senior lineman to Meigs. Not sure if that's correct, but that's what I heard. Anyone else heard that?

I've been hearing we could lose one to either Meigs or Bledsoe. Not sure if he will leave or not, but wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Being new here to the Tn area I'm not to familiar with the inside doings of high school sports here but is Meigs county  actively recruiting our kids away from us? I keep hearing about Rhea kids playing for Meigs and now another one.

Meigs County HC Jason Fitzgerald is a former Eagle and had a fairly long tenure as Rhea County HC. He left before the 2011 season, so he still has some connections to families in Rhea Co. His brother is also on the football staff.  I'm not saying he is "actively recruiting" but it is sort of fishy to me when a stud QB (who was a RB), WR/DB, and possibly now an O-Lineman from Rhea mysteriously end up moving to Meigs when it is looking like they won't see as much time on the field as they would like with the Eagles...

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
