IMHO both teams that win out of this district will lose to district 7.  District 8 was very weak this year.

I will agree 8AA isn't what it has been in the past but I wouldn't say weak. They just don't have dominate pitching as they have in the past. However, it has been a straight Slug Fest this year with these top 4 teams. Even when they play tourneys with pitching...all these teams can hit. No doubt other teams will hit on whomever makes it out of 8AA...It will come down to if they hit like they can and makes the least errors.

It' alot easier when a team has a dominant pitcher,  don't have to play defense, coaches don't have to strategize etc.etc. I will say that 8aa has some great offensive weapons  (as good as ever)and they can hit the best of pitching any of the top 4 teams are far from weak.

DeKalb 4-1 over Sequatchie. Hits were nearly equal but DC made the most of theirs, including some infield hits. They overcame 12 strikeouts, 7 in the first three innings.

Meigs big over Sweetwater.

Sweetwater at DeKalb, Sequatchie at Meigs. Regardless of the outcome it has been a good building season for Sequatchie with a lot of first-year starters. Four freshmen and two sophomores in the batting line-up this week, and next year will get back a player who started every game at shortstop last season as freshman, hit in the .450+ range (out with injury). Another good, quick player went out with an injury late, will have 2 more years, was batting well in a part-time role. Both pitchers return, in 10th and 9th this year. They have another good 9th grade group coming up, will push for playing time/starting spots.

(Yes, an 8-AA topic, but since the districts are locked in to each other in the postseason figured would just post here).

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
