Stats

  • Forrest, 184 rushing, 47 passing, 231 total offense. Burchell rushes for 44, Kirby for 41, Swift for 38
  • Eagleville, 42 rushing, 122 passing (70 on 1 play).
  • Good methodical victory. Burchell, Kirby, Hill, Follis, Swift, McClendon, had solid games.  Whittaker had a good 2nd half. Kicking game was solid. Minus the one big play, Forrest plays well defensively. The other long pass busted play def needs to be looked at
  • Kirby says "Finish, Finish, Finish" was the theme all week in postgame interview.

I listened to part of the second half. What I did catch just sounded  like sloppy football to me. I mean, if you take the 20 yard safety off of the Eagleville rushing totals, that number does look a little better. If either team wants to challenge Summertown or Lewis, they goign to have to get alot better. I think Loretto might even be better at this point. Good win for Forrest, though. Get a leg up on that top 4 finish for a playoff spot

Slow down. I think Forrest will lose to Lewis. They might lose to Moore and Summertown too, but at least those are home games. At Loretto and at Lawrence aren't gimmes by any stretch, but Forrest is better than Loretto and at least as good as Lawrence. Forrest had zero turnovers and fewer penalties than the Portland game. Forrest could make a case that they should be 3-0 as they dominated Portland for a half.

Doesn't matter now tho.  Onto Moore.

Rockets pick up an ugly win and go to 1-0 in Region. Field was sloppy and footing gave Eagleville problems. 4 sophomore backs came up with the big plays.  We’re not super talented but play well together. Questionable offensive calls from Eagleville all game long. Seemed like a QB run on every 3rd and long. None of them worked. We are susceptible to the pass. 3 straight games we’ve given up an 80 yard TD pass. Open receivers running deep all season long. Fortunately they didn’t try too many. Eagleville’ s best player is still hurt. He played the whole game on defense but doesn’t look like he’s 50%.

Im not buying better than Loretto or as good as Lawrence. If you stack the box and stop the run, Forrest isnt going to beat anyone with the pass. Lawrence will beat them worse than they beat Loretto. Book it.

Lawrence isn’t a gimme this year. Their QB got hurt last year in the game before us. He’s a player!  That’s the exact defense Portland played and it shut us down. And the exact scheme Riverside used. You would think we could scheme some plays for a 10 man box.

We have one of the best QBs in the state and some very good Young skill Players. We have an inexperienced and small offensive line. We should be spreading folks out and throwing it around but we’re content to run Inside twice and then here comes the boot on 3rd and long. We also have a very good receiver who plays about one out of three offensive plays because we run the plays in with WRs.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
