Portland has plenty of talent with their skill players. Needs a little more size and depth on the lines. Biggest problems are coaches not knowing what to do with the talent they have. No creativity, stuck in their outdated ways.

What would be your fix. What are they doing incorrectly from a schematic standpoint? In the run game? Passing game?

Facts are Portland hasn’t had “plenty of talent” for close to twenty years. Anyone that believes they do is either a Portland parent or hasn’t seen teams with “plenty of talent”.

Curious... what are they doing they shouldn’t be and/or not doing that they should be? Also, what do you mean by outdated ways?

Anything but the wingT, at least try some different formations. Some times you need to adjust to what you have to work with. I would prefer our backs to be moving forward instead of sideways. We become predictable and never try to exploit any advantage.

Also the outdated ways are how they handle discipline. A player can be sick, have a dental appointment if they miss practice they have to sit part of the game. Some of these things a player has no control of, so why punish him.

That’s a pretty simple answer, but I would argue that a formation isn’t the problem and I haven’t seen them play. Principles and philosophies could be a different story.

Maybe I'm a parent, maybe a former player or coach. Either way the talent they have is comparable to the teams they face.

Nothing wrong with the wing-t in high school. Agreed, you need multiple formations. Creasey bases out of the wing-t at Oakland with multiple formations.

May very well be comparable to most of your competition. A look at your schedule shows you have been competitive with everyone except Westview. Springfield and TC have outstanding skill this year. I haven’t seen Portland have that type skill since maybe 2002.

That's what I mean by having plenty of talent. I know what D1 looks like, not saying we or many on the schedule have that. However based on the teams we have played, the difference in my opinion comes down to coach ing. Very little halftime adjustments. The defense is decent, but always gets left out there because of a lackluster offense.

Gotcha.

Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
