Correct lawnman. With as many tight games you all have had, it is going to be an opportunity for young ones with little varsity time to be rewarded this week.

It’s always good to get the young kids in there for some varsity football noones.

I believe over the last decade, much of the success of the Orange and black, and Green and White is to get young people into varsity football games. Some youngsters step up and others find out this is why I’m 3rd team. The advantage of big score differentials. Programs always in a fistfight for the win do not have the luxury of playing 3rds against firsts.

The next two games for Betsy we will see a lot of the young kids get a chance to get some playing time.Betsy has some great looking young kids coming up and I’m sure the Devils have some as well.

Witten doesn’t really sub that much in those blowout games. He wants his team to be a 4 Qtr team and not be conditioned and game ready for those close battles. However, we do play a JV schedule which includes multiple games against BD and Science Hill when available, and avoid having to travel to some of the non region teams like William Blount a few years ago and Rhea County. He tries to get them as much game experience as possible. Even scheduled some Virginia teams during off weeks just to get more snaps.

This is the first time I’ve really seen Witten sub out. I think, not subbing over the last couple of years may have had some unwanted negative effects.

I would never question Coach Witten, he is probably one of the 3 best Football coaches ever in North East Tennessee. The other is Coach Ballard and I would have to think for awhile about who is third. I like playing young players in varsity action.
