I try to watch as much basketball as possible in the summer. I saw a lot of 3A teams and a few others. Here are the top 5 West Tennessee Teams I watched this summer

3A - Chester County brings everybody back... They will be legit

1A - Humboldt is going to be one of the best teams in West TN. they are loaded

Private - JCS will be much better. really athletic and a ton better skill than last season

3A - South Side will be back. they will be young but will kill people with their length and pressure

3A - Dyersburg with their big guy healthy and Coach Mahaffey's son will be tough

Honorable Mentions

3A - Haywood County  still going to be good but will miss Coach Chapman's son really bad

3A - South Gibson shot lights out the 2 games I watched, but they are really small at guard compared to last year's team

I watched Westview play Union City. UC dropping to 1A and returning about 90% of their production from last season makes them a juggernaut

I saw south side, Dyersburg, JCS, Lexington, USJ, and south gibson

JCS was impressive.  Best team out of this group

south side played a ton of kids and weeding through all those kids was tough but second beat out of this group

Dyersburg looked a lot different but have a kid that can shoot and a true post. Third best out of this group

South gibson was very small, they were really long last year. They play hard, guard you but can’t score 4th best out of this group

Lexington looked like a typical summer team after graduating a lot. They will figure it out 5th out of this group

USJ will get better and better.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
