Cornersville vs The Webb School

Webb will likely have a very tough season this year. Cornersville has a great player no doubt but can he hold up playing both ways? Pass defense is going to be the big question?

Webb is athletic and has tremendous size. I don’t know if Webb can slow down the running game and I don’t know if Cornersville can slow down Webb‘s passing game? Having seen both at scrimmages it’s going to be interesting to see who can come out on top in this game. It’s two totally different styles of offenses. I will say this and that is that Webb has a guy that’s 6 foot seven 350 pounds that is the largest high school player I’ve ever seen.

Cornersville the last 2 weeks have played 2 spread passing teams and have gave up zero TD’s. So I’m not sure why you think we can’t slow down the passing game?

Because I watched Cornersville pass defense against DCA. There were missed throws and drops that weren’t related to coverage against DCA that the film clearly shows. First play WR was 7 yards behind your DB and it was a miss, then the same thing again a few plays later. They had several pass plays of 15 yards and one for almost 40. DCA also had 50+ yards rushing in just a few possessions. All of this with the clock running. Webb has a 6’4” WR that is capable of making big plays and they will throw it to him often.

Webb has some explosive athletes that can cause some DBs  problems just like your run game will give some teams problems.  The question is can your running back play the game battling a 6’7” 350 OT on defense and run it on offense too?

Will be interesting to see how the game turns out. I’d think Cornersville has a good chance with its ball control offense and disciplined defense. Webb has some size and athleticism that can create opportunities for big plays. With it being the first game both teams will have tons of penalties like everyone else so overcoming those will be big.

Good assessment—I think Cornersville will be able to run the ball consistently—Webb has size and athleticism but zero depth…
