It was a great game and the Lady Bears come out on top. Freshman Christian Gibson shut down Dana Carrigan as she only made two threes all night. Beech's Maddux seemed frustrated all night an pulled her usual antics on the floor pulling many "flops". It was a sweet win for the Lady Bears who move into the regionals on a roll. All tounament selections for MJ were freshman Paige McFarlin, sophomore Alysha Clark, freshman Casey Pique and sophomore Holly Hudson. Christian Gibson really deserved to be named to the all tournament team. Her defense wasthe difference tonight. :):):)

Mt Juliet did play an excellent ball game tonight. Beech never really could get in any kind of rythem, which they were used to all season. The Lady Bears defense was also very impressive. Holding Carrigan to 2 threes and shutting down Maddux isnt easy. Wish both these excellent teams the best of luck in the regionals.

Beech and Mt. Juliet...a good game like always. Mj pulled thru after a rocky start. Congratulations Lady Bears!..and on a side note Maddux has some problems she needs crutches or a walker she had more than a few "flops" Does she do that alot? She is gonna have some serious problems later on in life she fell face first atleast 9 times tonight. I thought it was funny. Remind H'ville to check the floor for dents that she may have caused. I think Maddux took the falling on the floor routine from the White House boys.

This was a great game! Go Lady Bears!!! Hang in there Christian-remember it takes the entire team to win/lose. You were deserving of all tourney, but it didn't happen this time. Don't get down - let's go for a win 1st round of Region, and everything else will fall in place. One game at a time!

Not sure I'm following the gist of this topic. Gibson plays well, and always plays hard, and runs the point for the District 9AAA Champions and she needs to hang in there because she didn't win a plaque for all-tournament? Anybody realize how fortunate we are to be playing ball in a program like MJ? How lucky we are to be here right now? The future doesn't guarantee success, but if you look at the lineup, this offers the potential of something real special in MJ. There have been players in the MJ past that would have given every trophy they ever earned to be in a position like this. Players that never coveted individual honors, but just wanted to win. I'm sure Gibson is in this class of player. Surrounded by young, talented teammates and challenged by one of the best coaching staffs in Tennessee, is a heckuva good deal, from what I can tell. Congrats to the all-tournament team, but bigger props to the District 9AAA Champions. Go Lady Bears!

First of all, for the record, Dana Carrigan had four 3's. She scored 17 pts. maintaining her average, so I don't really consider that being shut down. By all means, they had their shooting woes! They shot 25% from the field and hit only 4 of 10 from the line and really never found their game. The Lady Bucs proved good on defense as the Lady Bears were held to a total of 20 shots the whole game. The Lady Bucs, also, created around 25 turnovers for the Lady Bears. I knew the game could go either way as there is alot of talent on both teams! The Lady Bears have alot of potential and I foresee them as becoming unstoppable as they are coached by one of the best! The Lady Bucs are not done yet and who knows we may meet again. Good luck to both teams!

25 turnovers is very possible when the score is 30-33. that can definitely when it is the ugliest game i have ever seen beech play. the bucs beat themselves tonight no doubt about. mt juliet has a great coach who i think very good with his girls. because right now they have a lot of potential. i just think they happened to be in the right place on the right night. GOOD LUCK IN THE REGIONS BUCS HOPEFULLY WE WILL GET REDEMPTION.

I didn't get to see the finals against Beech so I can't speak on that game, but I'm suprised that Casey Pique received All-District over Christian Gibson. Ultimately the only thing that matters though is what your team did and not what you did as an individual. As a MJ basketball fan I hope that I'll be able to see more of senior Lauren Hudson in the regional games. Lauren is a good ball player who hustles and I wish her the best of luck when she plays.

Since when have individual awards become so important at MJ? This is very sad because we are all about championships, not plaques that collect dust. Obviously the people that gave out all tournament gave it to those that they felt deserved it. The great thing is that MJ WON and they will advance as the #1 seed into the region. Congrats to the team and to the girls that received all tournament! FLNGRVY its a team sport, not individual so be happy for the team and dont worry about Gibson not getting a stupid all tournament award.

Congratulations Casey and Paige. Good luck in the regions! Don't let what ignorant people have to say about awards get to you. (Some parents can't admit that younger girls can be better players) It should be a TEAM thing and everyone should be very happy that you guys won the championship. What an accomplishment!!!! I am proud and can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks. Keep up the good work so I can read about you on here. Just know that there are people over here in Bradley County that thinks you two are the best over there in middle Tennessee. :D

I am proud of each girl who is a committed team player. Playing b-ball is a long winded sport which requires dedication ; sacrifices; and hard work! To those who are trying to step up their game, it has become a year round sport. We fans and parents can pick and choose who we think sparks a team but remember b-ball is a game about life and teaches many lessons. You don't go through life getting pats on the back all the time! It is not what you get or win --It is what you give and whether or not you are a team player at work or school! There will not be a better game than one that is intense and each girl steps up to the plate and plays unselfishly! It takes all 5 on the court to make a team! Yes, some stand out more than others; but can they play without fellow teammates? I don't think so! I applaude each athlete! Keep up the good work! :D:D

    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
    • No my fight, but ... if they were already college-caliber prior to transferring to BHS, and they already had FBS interest, and they end up at an FBS school, how did Bearden do anything for them?
