It takes more than out shooting your opponent and more than just talent to win in the post season. Smyrna has beaten two teams in the post season that were better than them (Clarksville and Brentwood) and they did it NOT because of luck or the refs or any other excuses that have been thrown out here. They did it because those two teams werent on top of their games and Smyrna took advantage of it in both cases. This is the post season and teams better bring their "A Games" because there is always a team or two like Smyrna that is waiting to catch you asleep. You can't just show up to these post season games and expect to beat a lesser team just by outshooting them. A team like Smyrna will pack it in on defense and sneak up on you when you are asleep. Brentwood and Claksville had to learn the hard way. From what I have heard so far the same thing was the case for Hendersonville. Luck is not a factor....taking advantage of opportunitys is. Just ask Smyrna.

Yes, you are correct about the Centennial win over Hendersonville. They came thinking they were walking away with this thing, and CHS decided differently. Just because you're ranked and supposedly the best, doesn't make it so...or we'd just put the numbers down on paper and give the trophy to who we think should win...

You better play to win and if you don't, be a good sport and realize you were not good enough to win (at least on this day, at this time). As the quote goes... "on any given day." That's why there are underdogs--ever watched the movie "Hoosiers?" Where somewhere in the heart of CHS and Smyrna there was a little bit of Hoosier.

Good luck to all the teams that played their hearts out and have earned their spot in the final eight!!!

I couldnt agree more. It shows everyone that there arent just a handful of good teams out there. It brings recognition to these teams. See if they had played real well and still lost not much would be said, but since they won people take notice. This gives these programs something to grow on. It instills confidence in the players as individuals and as a team. The midstate has always had good soccer teams but the spotlight had always gone to Brentwood, Franklin, Clarksville and Hendersonville. The turning point for Columbia this year was when we lost to Brentwood 3-0. Even though we lost we held them scoreless for the first 70 minutes. We were not intimidated. Soccer is a team sport and individual talent is good but if it doesnt fit with team chemistry then the individual talent gets overshadowed.

Just dont be intimidated or the better team will win all the time. Id like to see one or two more upsets before this is over. Good luck to all.
