A private to public transfer

ECS star Matt Lea has decided to transfer to Houston High School. Matt is an excellent basketball player at 6'4 200, and only a junior, but he is an even better baseball player, who will probably play professionally. His dad, Charlie Lea, was one of the best baseball players to ever come out of this city! His brother plays college baseball, and Matt was playing for the Dulin's Dodgers 17's when he was merely 14!!!

i missed the announcement of your appointment as spokesman for the public supporters. surely you are not taking it upon yourself to ASSUME what public supporters would say or do. there is a little saying about assuming that surely is as well known to privates as it is to publics.

 

i was visiting a friend last weekend, who coaches in another state. last time i saw him, he was excited about his team making a run at another state title. this weekend he was a lot less excited. seems he lost his best athlete to a tennessee school; baylor. i think you could call that "situation reversed", but i cant seem to find in here anyone crying foul. maybe you could do that for them?

What do baylor and your friend's school have in common?

 

 

They both have no dog in this hunt. One is in D2 and the other is out of state, neither are competing against public schools in the state of TN.

Sounds like the kid and his parents moved to a different section of the city, thus the change in school. If the coach is recruiting, prove it. If the program is recruiting based on success, then welcome to the same style of private school recruiting that lets little ole schools dominate.

I didn't say he did anything wrong. And I don't mean to imply that he did. But when private schools get kids that transfer people assume they are recruited. You said it yourself, he might have gone there because of Houston's success...kids might go to private schools because they are successful.

 

 

 

 

If you say that there is no foul play involved and the kid went there because he moved legally and wanted to play for a good team (which is what I believe) then you have to admit that kids will do that at many private schools....very good baseball players, football players, basketball players etc.

 

 

If you say that the kid went there because he was recruited illegaly, then here is a public school that has cheated and a private school that is the victim, and this proves that it is not fair either way, and perhaps we shouldn't split because of that.

Nope, I'm not muffin...

 

 

For two reasons

 

1-The kid left ECS. I went to a rival D2 school and my brother goes to a different D2 school meaning my school and my brothers school won't see him in basketball and baseball, which means ECS won't be as good hopefully, and maybe mine and his will beat ECS.

 

 

2-This is probably better for the kid. Pomeranz will get around a 550,0000 signing bonus.

 

 

 

So NO I'm not complaining, I am glad the kid left. I am saying that many public school supporters would complain if this was reversed...can you understand that muffin?

 

 

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. 300,000 people are without power in the Memphis area, my family included, we are in charge of numerous properties and they are damaged from the storm...the public/private debate is not my highest priority right now....so replies might take me awhile, Sorry.

Memphis---large urban area with thousands of kids and the potential for many teams to thrive off of the talent. Biggest problem in Memphis is coaching (or lack there of) in public schools.

 

1A privates and the 2 2A privates---- Located in similar locales.... feeding off there on success (even with lighthouse christian thrown in).... playing small rural schools.

Beethovan...How about Tyner, Hume Fogg, Madison Academic? Hmmmmm....I don`t see a lot of people looking at them. They play In 1A and 2A and are located in cities in which there are private schools. People could just as easily choose them for athletics as any other private school.

Nope, Public schools. Thats why no one fusses about Memphis small schools. I'd rather lose to an army of open zoned (issue diverting) publics than one private.
