Milan vs Mayfield, Ky scrimmage Aug 8

Milan used an impressive mix of running and passing to beat the Kentucky defending state champs. George West was impressive throwing to Daylan Walker, and the running of Rod Smith and FB Ricky Goff was very effective ...the Milan offensive line was blowing people off the line, and had excellent pass protection for West......the defense kept the pressure on Mayfield, and with the exception of one long play, completely shut them down.......

Yes, but they are traditionally a very good 1a team. Ky. teams are not allowed to play up in class. They have been in 2a also in Ky.'s 4 class system.

Milan did look much better this week than last. I must say that Mayfield was not the usual Mayfield and I don't think was as good overall as Haywood. Milan did make some neded improvement, but still have to fill some spots to go a long way in the playoffs. Offensively they "potentially" have a lot of weapons. Defense is still suspect in some areas. Good Luck dawgs against Southside in the jamboree and the opener vs Henry County.

Was Mayfields secondary any good against the pass? and how was Milans defense overall?

Overall I would give Milans defense a "B" rating against Mayfield...a few times Mayfield got the ball back in good field position and Milan held...with the exception of one long play, they did their job...Mayfield has a guy named Micah Jones on the offensive line (RT) , and rotates in on defense at tackle that is 6-5 330 and runs a 5.1 40......he is rated in the Sporting News top 100 and Rivals 100 recruiting...Being recruited by Tennessee, Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky , and Arkansas......this was not a scrimmage against a "down" Mayfield team....Last season (15-0), they defeated Paducah Tilghman (that defeated Union City in the first game of season), that has no fewer than 4 guys on this years team that are legitimate Division 1A prospects.....Mayfield passing defense was not bad, but Daylan Walker had too much speed for them.....

i was at the scrimmage and i thought it was a close contest and it was a controlled scrimmage. yes, milan has a good team but i thought that if it was a "real" game any team could have won.

i will also add that mayfield was not fully "loaded". a few players were out. mainly a running back that could make a difference. all in all it was a good test for both teams. did milan "whip" mayfield? no. it's sorta like preseason football, when the real bell goes off, sometimes things change.

The running back was out because we hurt him. It took one blow to take him out. HE was crying that can't handle the hard hitting milan bulldogs
