8 man?

Unaka had to play the eight-man game last night at King's Academy because King's has a very low turnout this season. I think I counted 14 total players on their team.

You simply go with three less players. It gives a team with speed a chance against a bigger team in that you could possibly get your speed guy/athlete to the corner or exploit one-on-one coverage....things like that. It's difficult to create zone, and two deep is pretty much out the window.

However as this particular game turned out, King's couldn't block Unaka's much bigger interior defensive linemen, and it got ugly for about a quarter. But KA is very young - freshmen and sophomores - and we look forward to their visit to Stoney Creek next season. A very classy bunch of players, coaches and fans.

I played eight man football in the Marine Corps in the seventies, and I think several military installations still have it. Again, it's a numbers thing. Hope this helped.

Back in the 1930s it was 6 man football infact, many football experts thought that 6 man football would overtake the regulation 11 man game. Schools like Harriman, Rockwood, Onieda, had the 6 man variation. The 8 man game is kinda like Arena league football outside. The kids try just as hard as the other schools they just don't have enough players to do 11 man. Many Schools like that only have 11-15 players TOTAL.
