FormerCav
My senior year at Crockett Co. was Earnest's freshman year. I won't forget even then the plays he made as a freshman in the defensive backfield...I always regretted that he wasn't a couple of years older or that I was a couple of years younger so we could have played together more...I would have loved openin' up some holes for "Scoop". Being in college I didn't get to see Earnest play much this past year. In a scrimmage game against Haywood he really showed out...he stepped up big in the Southside game and was off to a great start against Greenbrier before disaster struck....however, the most memorable game I saw Earnest play in was his sophomore year in the State Championship game against AE. I think everyone there will remember the impact he made on that game and was THE reason Crockett County had a chance to win that game. I think that is when all of the college scouts noticed him too... Good luck Earnest wherever you go, take that Cavalier work ethic with you and show 'em what kinda boys we raise in Crockett Co....I'll be watchin' every Saturday! timbertalker
Did U.T. not even recruit Ernest ? If they didn't that's their loss.
DAVIDTIDE
Did U.T. not even recruit Ernest ? If they didn't that's their loss. Earnest went on a visit to see them play but that was about it. Memphis has offered him a scholarship.
volfan911
DB, particularly safety, simply isn't a "need" position for the Vols this year in recruiting. I don't see Earnest playing at any other position in college and UT is LOADED with young WRs. They already have a committment from Jonathan Heffney, an extremely promising cornerback/return specialist, who is in prep school at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. They have a promising true freshman in Corey Campbell and Jarrod Parish, also a true freshman, is showing some promise as well. I think last year UT would have gone after Earnest harder. But he just wasn't considered a "can't-miss" prospect, according to their recruiting needs, by the UT staff from what I've heard. I was sure hoping to see him in Orange and White one day. But he'll do fine at Auburn or Ol' Miss and may see the field sooner than he would at UT.
BigH_Outlaw
I am from Huntingdon, I do not personally know Earnest but I have an Aunt and Uncle down there who talk very highly of him, it makes me sad here in Huntingdon that his High School career ended this way. He has something to look back on though, all the memories and records he made. From what I read and was told about him, he is completely awesome in every aspect of his life. I wish the best of luck to him in all of his future endeavours and hope that he does well wherever he decides to go to college.
shane hay
Thanks for the post Big H Outlaw. I hope the positive feedback will help lift Earnest's spirits. He is just an amazing young man. No matter how tired or sore he might have been from playing on a Friday night, he always showed up Saturday morning to referee flag football. My son took a liking to him and so did I. I don't think some of the High School kids realize how much influence they have on younger children. The Cavaliers have really gotten the kids in our county excited about football. I hope we can have a strong program for years to come. If you play football for Huntingdon--Good luck to you Friday night. I am thinking about coming to see the game. I'm sure it will be a nail biter!
